Who's Your Hero?

So, I started a new book a couple of weeks ago, and part of my process is to create a collage of images that remind me of the setting, hero and heroine. As I was drooling over hunky hero material look for appropriate hero pictures on the interwebz it struck me that our heros in Romance Land are always...the Alpha Guys. I don't just mean the I'm Right You're Wrong guys. I mean the fit, muscular-but-not-overly so model-and-movie type guys.

I mean we're not writing about Joe Schmoe wearing white tube socks up to his knees and a black headband while Sweatin' to the Oldies (no offense against that workout. It's a good one) and then sitting down to a dinner of Hershey bars and popcorn (no offense to those snacks, either, they're two of my faves).

But it got me thinking of the hero-images I choose. Yes, a few have been used more than once. My favorite lately is a chef you might've heard of...but pre-Chef, it was a long slew of action hero stars, even though I don't technically write romantic suspense. Or thrillers. But those guys...oh, they just make me happy-sigh all over myself.

So, whether you write with the image of a movie-screen hero in mind or not, I want to know which movie-star-hero is your favorite...and I've made a poll to boot! Here are the rules: Vote. And then, in the comments, tell me WHY this particular hero is your favorite. By the way, if any of these guys don't do it for you, add your choice in the comments, too. We are all about the man-candy hero love here at WordWranglers. Okay? Go!

  1. I chose Ryan Reynolds because, let's face it, that's one good lookin' man:) I also really like Paul Walker (although he's not on the list). Those blue eyes of his and his smile...*sigh*...I just love him:)

  2. As I was making The List I realized I had to be verra selective, Kimberly. Alas, no space for Paul..but I lurrrve him, too!

  3. I'm writing in Tom Selleck cause it's always his face I see whenever I'm dreaming up tall, dark and handsome. Paul Walker is definitely up there, too. Both men have beautiful eyes, something that catches my attention right away!

    1. Oh, Tom. Sigh. I still look for reruns of Magnum PI on cable just for him...

  4. I think Robert Downey Jr is pretty sexy, but I have to admit I like his sassy, cocky attitude in the Avenger/Iron Man movies...and that's probably why I think he's HAWT~! I also have a huge thing for sexy Johnny Depp...though I think if I actually met him in person I'd find his personality lacking..lol...like if!

Fun post...good luck with your new WIP Kristi!

    1. LOL, Christine! I <3 RDJ, too, and it's *totally* because of Iron Man. Johnny...If he was Captain Jack all the time...

  5. Ryan Reynolds from this poll. My hunky hero is from TV right now. I am totally enamored with Joel Kinnaman/Holder from The Killing.

    1. Ohhh, will have to check Joel out, Jerri, not familiar. But Ryan Reynolds is definitely one of my faves.

  6. I like Ryan Reynolds mostly because he's funny and quirky (at least in the movies I've seen him in), and good looking on top of that. I love his smile, too!

    1. Ryan is taking away the poll...so far! ;) Thanks for coming by, Erin.

  7. Hmmmm None of those guys do it for me. Except for Chris Helsmworth ::fanning myself:: The problem is, I'm not sure who would do it for me. Since I write historicals, Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow comes to mind.

    1. Oh, yes, Captain Jack. And I get Chris Hemsworth - made hubby buy Thor just so I could see him shirtless over and over. And over. And over.

  8. Hmmmm....none of them.

    I know! Right?

I chose Ryan Reynolds. He's cute.

    1. He *is* a cutie. And you know you'd choose Theresa's Tom from the Louis L'Amour flicks, D'Ann...

  9. Okay, I had to go for Robert Downey, Jr. - mostly due to Iron Man and the whole "genius billionaire playboy philanthropist" thing. And, okay (nerd-girl time), 'genius' was definitely the thing to lead with for me. Yep, smart guys turn me on! And if they look like Robert, that's what you call 'total package' baby!

    1. Oh, yeah. Iron Man is The Package, Irene. Smart and funny and not afraid to kick a little ass...

  10. While I love Ryan Reynolds, I don't seem him as an action star, so I went with Chris Hemsworth for the poll. I love Thor and he was the best part of the Snow White.

But, if I had to pick anyone, Mark Wahlberg is at the top of my list. He looks good in a suit and out of a suit. And as an added plus, he's got brains and heart.

And for hawt, hawt men, you should be checking out Magic Mike when it comes out at the end of the month. Have you seen the mouth-watering eye candy in that one?

    1. Ohdearlord, I forgot to put Mark Wahlberg on the list!!! What was I thinking?!?

  11. Interesting list. Brosnan in a tux--and with that accent--vs. Ryan Reynolds all-American sexy look vs. Robert Downey, Jr.'s brainy Sherlock/Iron Man personas. Tough decisions you force on us, Kristina.

    But where was Johnny Depp?

    1. Oh, Captain Jack...I know, the list had to give somewhere...

  12. Oooh...that's a hard one! There are several I like for different reasons. Chris Hemsworth - Alpha male extreme; brooding and gorgeous.
Robert Downey Jr - Smart and snarky; enough life experience to make him intellectually interesting and sexy to boot. Harrison Ford - Similar to Robert Downey Jr, but not as much of a smartass.

  13. I chose Vin Deisel. He has the best butt I've ever seen on a man. And that bow legged walk? Don't get me started on that. There's also a cockiness about him that I love!

    1. I love Vin. Paul Walker's a cutie and I love him, but Vin is the reason I keep watching those Fast & Furious movies. ;)

  14. I voted for Harrison Ford because he's an old guy and...well, I like old guys. However, I've watched Vin Diesel in Pacifier like ten times because he's just...really...cute. I'm with Diane--different ones for different reasons. Truth be told, if dead's okay, my vote still goes to Cary Grant.

    1. Oh, sigh, Cary Grant...ahhhhhhhhh. And there's nothing wrong with liking the oldies. I have a thing for Sean Connery (yep, another I forgot to list!!!) and he's old enough to be my great-grandfather! Almost.

  15. I like voting for hot men. And I need to get out more because I have no idea who Chris Hemsworth is.

    1. Me either, but I'd probably know his face if I saw it.

    2. He's 'Thor' from the Avengers & Thor movies and he's...YUM. His best look (in my educated experience) is with longer hair and a slightly-more-than-5OClock shadow. He's also an Aussie so he's got that accent thing going on. Here's a bunch of piccies - http://chrishemsworth.tumblr.com/

    3. Okay, now know! Nice choice!

    4. He's also the Huntsman in the Snow White and the Huntsman... He's hot in there too....

  16. But my favorites are Huge Jackman and Orlando Bloom... I'd take both--er--I mean either one of them...LOL

  17. You crack me up, Kristina. Matt Damon fan here, and Heath Ledger, rest his soul. I think Jude Law will come to be prolific the way Anthony Hopkins is. All AH has to do is stand still, and he seems deep in thought about the apocalypse, or something. Also love the "brooders," including Hugh Jackman and Michael Fassbender. All-time favorite? Henry Cavill. Can't wait to see him as Superman! Stepping away from the keyboard now...

  18. I agree whole heartedly with Moriah!!! I'd like to add Gerard Butler...and oh, that other man...oh yes, we must remember. Oh, no! I'm so flustered I can't remember his name. Eeeeks!! James McAvoy. Whew! I remembered. :)

I'm also old enough to appreciate Sean Connery. ...we can't leave out James Bond!

    How fun!!
