Dream A Little Dream

Close your eyes.

Go ahead. Just for a minute.

Now let your mind wander to that place where we all want to be. You know. Yeah, you do. Just say it.

Published.

Admit it.

Yeah, you love to write, couldn't live without it. Tried to stop a few times. Once after a nasty crit that made you curl up with two gallons of chocolate ice cream you vowed to stop. And there was the time you got the rejection from your dream editor that made you stomp on every single disc of your story.

But you recovered. And you kept writing.

Because you wanted to see your name on the cover of a book.

So bad it hurt.

Did you want to be at one of the E-pubs like Wild Rose Press or Samhain? Or was it your dream to be at Kensington? Berkely?

Come on. Just say it.

Okay!

From day one, I've wanted to be a Harlequin Intrigue author.

Always. From the first manuscript I wrote, my dream was to be in the Harlequin stable. Some people look down on Harlequins, say they're too confining, to boring.

But I love the mysteries, the suspense, the romance.

I want to see my name on one of those blue and purple books. D'Ann Linscott-Dunham, Intrigue author.

It's my dream. And I'm not giving up until it comes true.

  5. Dreaming. . . it doesn't even have to be a romance market. Just get me in the door!
My ever present motto is that old wine commercial: No wine before its time.
Well, honey, I'm gettin' fermented pretty damn good!
Does that mean there is a book cover in my future? LOL

  6. Great visualization exercise...and I'll go one farther. I was really down after a particularly bad contest (this was a couple of years ago) loss. My sister-in-law took me to B&N and rearranged the shelves...right there in the middle of Laura Kinsale and Jayne Anne Krentz. She shoved each of them down about 5 inches and said, "Look, if you don't keep pushing this space will always be empty."

  9. Actually, I always wanted to see my name in the Science Fiction Book CLub Flyer, which probably explains why I write mostly paranormal romance. But I would be thrilled to see ny name on a shelf at B&N. As far as the publisher goes -- some one who will pay me. In advance.

  11. I've always wanted to write for Harlequin, too bad they didn't feel the same way. I've taken a few detours, but I'm still going to keep trying to get my foot in their door.

  15. I checked the "S" section in the YA area of Borders the other day to see who I'd be between. I can't remember who they were, but I just wanted to picture it at that moment. So, for me it's always been somewhere in the YA section and an interview with Matt Lauer.

  16. Keep at it. If you want it bad enough it will happen!

I'm with Wild Rose Press but my dream publishers are Berkley, Avon, and Pocket. I'm still pushing toward that dream.

  17. My name is Shawn and I'm a writer-holic. I dream of starting off with an agent or WRP but eventually moving to bigger pubs like AVON or Penguin.

  20. Best of luck with your goal, D'Ann. I've loved Intrigue for years, and writing for the line exceeds all my expectations. I hope to see you join the ranks soon.
