The Importance of Romance

This weekend my husband I and went to the Food and Wine Festival at National Harbor. We love food, wine, and most of all, getting to spend an entire weekend together. Often our weekends are jam packed with chores, errands or social activities with friends. Alone time is not always easy to come by.

Although ridiculously hot, it was a wonderful day (and that's not all the wine talking!). Despite the river of sweat pouring off each of us, we strolled holding hands, sipping and reveling in each other. The capper to the day was the sunset. We sat on the end of the pier, dangling our feet over the water and watched a truly spectacular sunset over the Potomac. A few boats drifted by, and we could hear the water lapping against the wooden supports. Talking and smooching while the sky lit up like a purple tinged bonfire, it was a perfect moment. And utterly romantic.

It is vitally important to seek out these moments for yourself. Yes, romance writing is a fantasy, but it helps when you've got a little going on for yourself. Everyday routine can drag you down, and romance might be prioritized behind twenty other things. Don't let it happen! We all need romance every bit as much as our characters do. If the grass doesn't get cut for another day, it's not the end of the world. But love-affirming moments can juice you up for an entire week. Renew the romance in your life, and you'll find it much easier to get everything else done. Because happiness is a great motivator!

  2. Hi Christi!
I couldn't agree more. My husband and I went to the Carole King/James Taylor concert over the weekend. It was wonderful. Left the kids home! Had a nice dinner, did some gambling at the hotel. I can't remember the last time we did something like that.

  3. Christi,
What a nice day for you!
My dh doesn't do romance...ever. But my heros do!
    And that is good, too.
