Writing Interupted

Jingle Bells, jingle bells, jingle bells ....

Ho! Ho! Ho!

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!

Ok, you get the idea. Tis the season.

Tis not the season for writing. Not for most, anyway. Parties, writing cards, chasing the perfect gift all over the mall, wrapping said gift, it all takes time.

I work retail, so not only do I get the above pressures, but a shift of grumpy, decidedly unjolly shoppers, fellow employees and bosses is exhausting. Last night I didn't get home until 12:45 a.m.

My plans were to sleep in, eat brunch and write! And do at least two crits I owe.

Instead, I have to return a jacket that's going to be too big for my daughter, dig out wrapping paper from where it's stored somewhere in the shed, bake cookies. No writing is likely today. Except of course this blog.

Sigh.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

PS...This antique sleigh reminds me of Santa's!

  1. I haven't got any writing done either. When the time changes, it gets darker so much earlier, it feels like the days are shorter and I can't find the time to cram everything in. I'm coming off of NaNoWriMo, too so I don't exactly have the urge to write a lot.

  2. LOL, I don't!!! I'm doing a few small edits on my MS I plan to query in the spring, but that's it

  3. I am trying actually! I am getting up at 5 am and writing for a couple of hours, then i rush around the house and clean (well my version of clean) then back to it. I'm lucky i work from home so i can fit it in.

    Merry Christmas

  4. It's hard to make time but I do. This is actually an easier time for me to write because with exams my schedule is more flexible--just more grading to be done. I usually write late at night anyway--only quiet time at my house. But the urge to write is too strong and I just have to get something down somewhere everyday, even at the cost of a little sleep!

  5. I'm writing only a few hours a day. It's way too cold to come out from under my covers :) Although, I don't have to. I'm not buying gifts or running around or doing any of those holiday type things so I'm lucky, I think.

I do not envy you your day job, D.

  6. Yes, very difficult for the holdidays to get anything done. But I'm determined!! :)

  7. I must be the odd one, once again. My husband & I did all our Christmas shopping in less than 2 hrs. It just needs to be wrapped - I'll use bags & tissue paper for that to save time. While the kids are in school, I'm writing a few hours a day. Next week will be challenging cause they'll be out for Christmas break. Yes people! I said Christmas break. Not winter! And if that makes me politically incorrect, you know where your lips can be applied. LOL And D'Ann, I've even had time to dink with my nags lately. What's up with that?

  8. I also get up very early before the day officially starts so I can put in some writing time. But you're right, D'Ann, there are a great many distractions at this time of the year. I will be blogging tomorrow however at
Author Expressions and everyone is welcome to drop a comment about the perfect holiday present.

  9. Merry Christmas to you too....

I keep thinking of all the crits I still owe my CPs too...including you!

Writing this year has really, really taken a back seat. Last year didn't seem as busy, but I don't know why. This year has been one thing after another.

Last month I managed to write 62,000 words, 50,000 of that was within the first three weeks of November for NaNo in my WIP. So far this month, I've only written about 6000.

I can't wait for normalcy to return!!!

  11. Love the sleigh, D'Ann! I'm getting nothing much done this year -- not because of the holidays but because of a cold/flu/whatever that won't go away!

  12. When I figure it out, I'll let you know.
