Why Be Normal When You Can Be Paranormal

This week we're talking about genre's. I read all types, but my absolute favorite is paranormal, hands down. I love getting lost in a world where anything is possible. You never know what's going to happen in a paranormal. The characters don't necessarily have to have fangs, fur, or claws, although I like those too. I like really unusual characters. Demons are one of my favorites. They're not the demons you read about in the bible. The demons I'm talking about are sexy and sometimes, they're the heroes or heroine.

Time travel? Another fave. Throw a medieval knight in present times, and I'm hooked.

My love of paranormals actually started with tv shows like Charmed and movies like Dracula. When I realized these characters were in books, I decided to pick up a few. Sherrilyn Kenyon was the first paranormal book I ever read. I couldn't put it down. I think I've read everything she's ever written.

It never crossed my mind to write a paranormal until I had a really strange dream one night. The next morning I thought, "Hmm...that would make a great book." And my journey began.

What about you? What's your favorite genre and why?

  1. I LOVE paranormals. Maybe it's because my brother was interested in the magical; maybe its because I have always been drawn to the moonlight and things that go bump in the night.

Whatever - it totally floats my boat! I am SO with you!

  2. I love your para, and my friend Sheri's.

I said the other day that I wouldn't write a ghost, but lately that has been nagging at me.

Maybe your paras are rubbing off on me!

  4. Shawn,
My journey to paranormal romance was unexpected actually. I was a big reader of Tom Clancy, James Patterson etc... But in cinema, I always preferred science fiction/paranormal. Why I never thought to read it I have no idea. My husband and I finished watching Underworld. I always loved vampire movies, so I decided to pick up a vampire novel. I've been hooked ever since and now write it. Talk about a life changer.

  5. I like all of the genres for reading... but for writing, I'm not sure I could write myself out of the paranormal bag. May try sometime, tho.

  6. Jean, we're alike that way. Loved to watch paranormal movies and shows. Was great to get those same thrills out of books!

Kristi, I like all genres too, but I'll always come back to paranormals.

  7. Ooo - I LOVE Charmed. So sad when it ended. Talk about cheesy bad goodness!

I love paranormals and contemporaries, but will happily read almost anything.
