When Bad Guys Go Good

The wip I've been working on has a very nice secondary character. Strong, handsome loving. Sure, he has some personal baggage but who doesn't? Here's the problem. He wasn't meant to be so nice. I have to turn him into a complete asshole.

I've written the chapter twice and keep wanting to erase it to make him Mr. Nice Guy. But that won't work for the story. It'll ruin everything. But still, he wants be a nice guy. Good and evil are duking it out in my head and on paper. The rest of the story is going great.

I can't write him out either. He's an ancestor of the heroine. I'm thinking maybe I'll work on something else until I can figure it out. Keeping my fingers crossed.

  1. Good luck with that, Shawn. I think when they work that hard to make their wishes known, sometimes you have to give in.

  3. I know exactly what you mean. I have the exact same problem. JJ was supposed to be an asshole, not a good guy. Now I have to find a way to not have him overshadow Cord.

  4. Hmmm...I have no brilliant ideas. I hate it when characters are nice when they need to be bad. Hey, what if he starts out nice and something happens that 'turns him'? Shows redeemability.... mebbe. ;)
