Dream a Little Dream

Working through a case of the blahs. The scary thing is I'm feeling blah about writing. I lost the excitement I used to have to open up the laptop and fill the blank page with words. I think a lot of it may be stress. The day job has changed dramatically and it's driving me crazy.
So here's what I figured I'll do. Take a week off writing. Decompress a little. See if I miss it. Hope the characters will come out to play. I realized if I try to force the story, it stinks.
Maybe my dreams will take me where I need to go. That's got to be the key. I've forgotten to dream. My dreams used to drive me. I haven't taken the time out to dream lately. Daydreams or otherwise. Lately, I haven't been able to remember my sleeping dreams. So tonight, I'll close the laptop, put it away, and hopefully, see where my dreams take me.

  1. This morning I stayed in bed longer than usual because I left my window open and my bedroom was freezing! And ya know what? I had different thoughts than I usually do. Maybe you need to day dream in a new place, or linger in bed a bit longer...but don't worry...your characters will come out and play again.

  2. I like Em's suggestions...And you're right - sometimes 'life' stress can shut down our creative sides, so take a little you time and see if that helps open the vaults.

  3. If it isn't fun, you shouldn't be doing it. Only pursue a passion when you feel passionate - and if you dont' anymore, don't beat yourself up about it.

  4. Gonna try this again...

I think this happens to everybody. Reminds me (of course it does!) of an essay I wrote once about marriage. The title was "You Can't Be in Love Every Day."

  5. I agree. Don't force it. Don't feel guilty. When you're ready, the words and the voices will come.

  6. this makes me sad, but I agree. I have to have time to dream, both awake and asleep. If I don't, I don't feel the spark. I have a lot of stress at work right now, too, and it saps me.

Hope you feel the spark soon, Shawn.

    Hugs.
