Escaping!

An escape?

That's the topic of the week here on Wordwranglers.

It's been especially bitter this January. Temps hovering around the zero mark in the mornings. I just hate it. There's nothing good about wintertime in my opinion.

Going on vacation isn't an option. Too many animals, too little money. So, where do I go to escape?

Books!

Ha!

Where else?

Want to hear something funny? The last book I read was a Fern Michael's Christmas anthology. No sun or beaches in that one. Lots of snow.

But it wasn't about my little town, and there wasn't a boring job involved. It was an escape to places I'll never go.

  1. I know what you mean about weather, D'Ann. It's been bitter cold, snowy and grey here, too. I escape by keeping my fingers flying with knitting needles and/or a crochet hook. And if that doesn't work, I shoot pool :)

  2. I'm not a fan of winter anymore either. It was great when I was a kid, but those days are over! lol I don't like driving in it, I don't like having to wear layers of clothes to venture outdoors and I don't like my heating bill! lol

As for escape, books and movies are the way to go in the winter. at least for me :)

  3. books, movies and friends...! Chatting to my friends/family always allows me to forget the place I'm in :)

  4. I think only kids like winter. I hate having to wear all the extra layers of clothing. Our winter was lovely until around Christmas Eve then it got cold. Granted not as cold as in your area D'Ann but for Texas it is cold. Today is rainy and 48 degrees-balmy compared to zero I'm sure, but to us it is cold and damp. I loved Hawaii the entire four years we were there. Someone commented they missed the change of seasons. I pointed out the seasons change. My Plumeria tree went dormant every year around Jan-March. It might be cool in the mornings around low to mid 50's and a lightweight windbreaker or maybe a sweatshirt and jeans. Usually by noon you'd be able to go back to shorts and a t-shirt but the nights would cool down. I loved it when I never had to wear a heavy coat and a ton of clothing.

  5. I'm right there with you. As much as I love writing its not my escape, my escape is books and the worlds that are created in them. I can love in someone else's world for a while and forget everything else around me. There's nothing like it...

  6. I never thought I'd get tired of cold and snow but then we moved to the North and...yeah, tired of it. We've had 0-degrees and snow since before Christmas and I'm ready for some fun and sun!

  7. I'm not so much tired of the cold weather but the germs that have invaded our house. Ugh!

  8. I use to love the winter, but now that I'm older it drives me batty. We don't get snow here, we get endless days of rain and clouds. Some days it's so dark and gloomy it's hard to feel upbeat about anything. As I type this the rain is pounding down.
I'm suppose to write today, but I'm not feeling it, lol. Just want to curl up under a blanket beside the woodstove and read.

  9. I love to read as a form of escape. When the world is chaotic around me, I know I can find relief in my books. We don't have snow where I live, not much rain either. I can see how both would be tiresome after a while.

  10. I'll be tired of winter come February, but right now, Jess and I like hiking in the snow. I can see animal prints. While Jess always knew a bear had failed to hibernate and was running about, I don't know until it snows and I find bigfoot prints. (Created by the back foot and forepaw overlapping. The result is exactly like a bigfoot print. Turns out wild animals love the trails I cut. It's like a zoo runs through my trails at night. Now I can see why Jess is so excited.

  11. One way I escape is to read travel lit. I'm not jealous of those that travel but I do love reading and hearing about their adventures in exotic places.

  13. From the time I started reading, I've always used reading as an escape. As a shy teenager, I always had a good book as a companion. And there's nothing like getting sucked in and not being able to put down a book--one of my favorite things in the world.

  14. Not a better escape than books, D'Ann. I even read when I'm on vacation. :)

  16. Love to escape into a book! Just came home from the 18th century this morning--it was like getting doused with a tub of cold water. Not cold here, but loved the HEA there. :)
