A Second Look

Last year, I was lucky enough to be chosen by then-editor Jennifer Lawler at Crimson Romance to be one of the 24 debut authors who were released on June 4th, 2012. Oh the thrill! The excitement of seeing my name on my very first published book, Wild Horses! I'll never forget it.

I want to be clear, I have no bone to pick with Crimson. To the contrary. I'll be eternally grateful for the chance to be a real, published author.

But... sales weren't what I hoped.

So, after a lot of soul-searching, I took the reversal of rights option on three titles. And self-published two of them.

Here are the new covers and new blurbs:

Castaña Castillo left her home, and her heritage, behind a long time ago. Now she’s forced to face both. Her estranged brother is missing, presumed dead, and there’s no one else to search for him.

Jake Breton has to make an arrest—his shaky career rests on it. Falling in love with the suspect’s sister isn’t an option.

Can Castaña and Jake overcome their obstacles and find love?

Mallory James’ missing father’s body is discovered in an unused cabin on an Arizona guest ranch. He leaves her half a treasure map. Will tracing it bring much needed closure?

Resort owner Mike Malone discovers half a treasure map, and desperate, he pockets it. Doing so goes against his moral code…but could a lost mine save his beloved ranch?

Can Mike and Mallory find gold, finality…and love?

  6. Hi D'Ann. I have also gone the indy route and had a great run. Good luck to you. I really like the covers, but I think in thumbnail, your text is going to get lost…not what you want. I'd go with lighter, (like Desert Heat) but bolder text on a darker background. Otherwise, they're great.

  9. They are beautiful covers, D'Ann, and I'm so glad you're getting them back out. I understand about the sales, as I've just come up on my first year and even though I try not to, I look at my numbers VS other numbers and wonder why they are so low. Just know, you write beautiful, wonderful stories and that it might take some time, but there's a place and time where you will shine in the spotlight and the world will know your name. You're a fantastic writer and it's just such a big world out there for books that we have to fight hand, tooth and nail these days to be seen. Keep it up, because I need a new D'Ann fix soon! <3
