Me, Me, Me...15 Random Facts

This week at the wranglers, Margie thought it might be fun to share 15 random facts about ourselves. Check out what Liz said yesterday and what Kristi, Margie and Shawn share the rest of the week. I'm not that exciting, and a lot of these most of you already know, but here goes:

  1. I have an only child, Brandi. The light of my life.
  2. I started riding horses when I was three years old on a black Shetland pony named (what else?) Beauty.
  3. All my life I’ve longed to have my own cattle ranch, specifically to raise Black Angus.
  4. I have amazing friends, both in person and online. Some clear back from elementary school to some I just met at the pool. They all make me laugh.
  5. I grew up in Ouray, Colorado in the summer months; Phoenix, Arizona in the winters. My parents supplied dude horses for two different guest ranches in AZ and their own stable in the summers
  6. For 16 years, I was a 4-H leader, coaching local, state and national level horse knowledge bowl teams. I also co-ran a horse club with my sister.
  7. My pop is my hero. I worship him. A true cowboy hero. A lot for guys in books to live up to.
  8. I live on a corn farm outside of a town small enough to spit across, but famous for its sweet corn.
  9. When I was 11 years old I trained my first horse...by myself.
  10. I met my husband when I was 17, cruising main with my friends. We’ll be married 31 years this August.
  11. I loathe travel. I don’t want to go anywhere. Perfectly content right here.
  12. I was a rodeo queen. Well, attendant.
  13. I am in hopelessly in love with Kid Rock. (Yeah, no one else gets it either).
  14. My favorite activity in the world is to take the horses and dogs to the mountains for a day of trail riding and picture taking with my daughter. Add a hot dog roast, and I’m in heaven.
  15. I’m cowboy to the bone. Born and bred.

  8. Very nice idea to do the fifteen random facts. I knew about your love of cowboys and horses, but didn't know you'd grown up as a part-time resident of AZ. I lived in Northern AZ during my formative years, and then moved to the Phoenix area, teaching there for several years. Arizona will always have a place in my heart.

  15. D'Ann, I don't know you extremely well but I'd say that based on these tidbits, you also sound like a boatload of fun and from what I have read, I know you write a good book!

  16. Great facts, D. It's too bad you're not inclined to write YA because a story about growing up on a guest ranches would be awesome.

The first horses I remember seeing are Icelandic ponies. I may have seen horses before that but they definitely made an impression.

  17. D'Ann, I totally get your love for Kid Rock.
I'm not a traveler either. I love where I live, and have no reason to go anywhere--and I have too many animals, lol. The only place I have a desire to visit is Colorado. The scenery is so gorgeous. I want to see the mountains and valleys with you on horseback.

  18. That was an awesome post D'Ann. I don't know you so it was all fresh news for me and I must say-have you ever thought about becoming a writer because-you're really GOOD! And, fyi, you don't sound boring to me, you sound like home and heart and loyalty. You sound like white Christmas and kissing booboos better and watermelon- juicy down your chin. In fact, you sound like that warm place in our heart that we always long to return to even if we've never really been there. Cheers : )
