Can We Talk?

As I write this, I have to stop every few seconds to fan myself. The air is on full blast, and I'm sitting here with sweat running down my back, and a hand held fan. Pictured fans are the ones I keep at home. I keep one in the car. My air conditioner went out for the second time this summer. ACK!!! I keep two at work, one for a co-worker who has the same problem. Personal summers have become a way of life.

I've never written a female character over the age of thirty-five. Why? Because right now, for me, forty-something is not all that glamorous. I'd probably write a very undesirable forty-something character. One of the Wranglers, Liz, writes great forty and older characters. Love them all.

I'd like to write a character closer to my own age one day. After all the hot flashes and mood swings disappear, maybe I'll give it a go. Right now, I hear an ice cold shower calling me.

  1. LOL. That's what makes older characters empathetic, Shawn--they suffer for their greatness! Hugs to you on the "hots."

    1. Thanks, Liz. My mom keeps looking at me like she wants to die laughing. I think she's remembering when she went through it and we all thought she was nuts.

  2. I dread hitting the flash season! Knock on wood, it hasn't visited me yet. I'm warm all the time and don't have air-conditioning any where---home or car. So, I know I'll be beyond miserable.

    1. Oh, Margie, you might want to keep a lot of ice on hand.
