Do you ever
worry about being annoying? I certainly do. I think it comes from being the youngest child who spent years
bugging the life out of the ones who came before me. It left me with a real
fear of being a pest.
In publishing,
in this particular day and age, it’s probably not enough. Self-promotion is the
ugly pill we swallow to be part of the profession we truly love. We all hope
you buy our books and leave splendid reviews on them.
Mostly,
though, we hope you enjoy reading them. We hope they give you a good afternoon,
a memory you can pull out when you need it, laughs and tears (yes, both in the
same book). Today, I hope you have a really great day and I apologize if I’ve
been annoying, but thanks for coming to see me even if you’re tired of my
blurbs, excerpts, and beautiful cover.

There are changes.
It is with sadness that the Wranglers wave so long to D'Ann and Shawn. We're sorry they're leaving and hope they come back to visit. We wish them every kind of joy and success there is.
On a different,voila note, I want to
introduce Nan Reinhardt, the newest Word Wrangler. She’s been here before—you probably
remember—and is going to be our Tuesday blogger. Nan’s the author of the
popular Women of Willow Bay series as well as being one of my own personal
besties. We hope you give her a great welcome when she arrives in the round
corral tomorrow morning.
I'm laughing *with* you this morning, Liz...because I wonder the same thing - how can people stand to see my cover or exerpt or blurb one more time? And yet, we have to share, lol
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Nan! And Shawn and D'Ann we will miss you so...
Nice to know it's not just me. I can barely make myself autograph books because I still can't imagine why anyone would want my signature!
DeleteGoodbye to D'Ann and Shawn. I've loved your posts and really gotten a lot out of them. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience. I hope everything is ok in your world and God Bless you.
ReplyDeleteWe are sad to see them go, too, Sia. We wish them well and hope they come back when it's right for them.
DeleteI so get your point, Liz! I'm going to be doing the same thing in January and I'm already worrying about being a pain in the behind. But yes, we must do it and how lovely that you're promoting such a terrific book with such a gorgeous cover! All success, mon amie! And thank you for the warm welcome, my little PSBFF! Looking forward to being a Word Wrangler!!
ReplyDeleteWe're glad to have you here!
DeleteI've been there Liz, (and will be again, very soon,) and can so identify with your plight. But it's okay to share--we all support each other when we can.
DeleteI agree there--writers are the most supportive group of people I've ever been a part of! Thanks, Barb.
DeleteI've been there as well with my photo history book, a local niche book. I was in two newspapers, talking it up, had multiples signings, was buying ads, etc. One day my neighbor, an English prof. who lives two houses down, was walking to his mailbox. I made myself connect and cringed as I rolled down the car window and asked, "Have you seen my book?"
ReplyDeleteHis response: "You wrote a book?" lol We all have a lot of info. coming at us. For example, I'm getting to this blog post late and don't know how I missed it yesterday. :) Keep on promoting, Liz! No one is as sick of the promo as you are, trust me!
Thanks, Cathy!
DeleteMy two cents? I think if you don't share the same clip at every posting, then you're golden. I've seen a few that keep posting the same clip and it's like, "Again???" Kind of like movie trailers. You wouldn't believe how excited me and my girls get when they post a new trailer of a favorite movie we're dying to see. Like The Hunger Games series.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Margie. I hope everyone feels that way! :-)
