Ava Cuvay is 'in the house!'

Hello and Howdy! First off, I am thrilled and honored to be part of Word Wranglers! It’s a great group of gals… I adore Nan and Liz, and am looking forward to getting to know Kristina and Margie. I am the proverbial “fifth wheel” here (or "Girl Friday”... choose your preferred joke J), but they all have been very welcoming and helpful.

Please be gentle with me; this is my first blog. I’m both excited and nervous about giving up my blogging V-card. Much like the first time for anything, I imagine it will be awkward and maybe a bit painful, though will become more comfortable (dare I say titillating?) over time. As long as it’s good for you, then I know I’m hitting the right spots, which makes me happy.

Scratch that. It makes me puff out my chest, fist-pump, and brag to no one in particular “Yeah, baby, I got it!”

On that fun thought, I’m Ava Cuvay. I write hot sci-fi romance in a Star Wars sort of vein, minus the
space opera and definitely minus the annoying Jar-Jar Binks character. Don’t let your eyes glaze over yet… If you are familiar with what the other Word Wrangler gals write, I’m really just one small step for man and woman into a different sort of world. Trust me, there is a lot of humanity to be found in a galaxy far, far away! At this moment, I am unpublished, but my ship is pointed on a trajectory toward that event-horizon and I’m gonna hit warp-speed at some point, possibly after I pass the Kobayashi Maru.

I began writing romance a few years ago at the mature age of *cough!*cough!*cough!*, though the only thing mature about me is some wine in my cellar. Usually, I’m more like a fifth grade boy: I find potty humor to be—well—humorous. I prefer action/adventure films to chick flicks or rom-coms, and strive to master the artforms of sarcasm and sexual innuendo (though my novice attempts border more on snarky and crude). I have a faulty brain/mouth filter, and am quick to laugh at my own foibles, which means I am rarely without a reason to chuckle. Fortunately, I’m married to a scruffy-looking nerf-herder who totally “gets” me, and we have some offspring who are still young enough to think I’m the best mommy they’ve ever had (their words, not mine. So, fist pump and “Yeah, baby, I got it!”).

I have three passions: writing, wine & spirits, and bacon. Well, bacon is less a passion and more a reason for living. The Writing and the Wine & Spirits are passions which continually challenge me to learn and grow, and I love sharing both passions with others. I could blather on about them Ad infinitum, so don’t let me hog the conversation!

That’s pretty much me in a nutshell. You’re either mildly intrigued or straight-out turned off. But if you promise to ride this crazy train with me for a while, I promise to keep my four-letter words and my sci-fi references to a minimum and maybe even get to a topic of interest. At the very least, you can laugh at my foibles. J

I’m glad to be on board with Word Wranglers and am looking forward to getting to know you. It’s going to be a blast!

  1. Welcome, welcome, Ava!! So very glad you have on board here at the Wranglers! Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to your special brand of humor and learning more about wine and writing and maybe even Star Wars (although my kid's been a fan since the very beginning, so, I'm in the know somewhat!) from you! Great first blog, baby! You got it!! *fist pump*

    1. Thanks for the kind words, Nan! I would venture to say you know as much as I do on wine, spirits, and Star Wars! :-)

  2. Welcome, Ava. We're glad you're here. I think to better explain your passion for bacon, you should at some point include a picture of what you take to retreat... :-)

  4. Greetings, Ava! At our house, we're huge Star Wars fans, have been to not just one but two exhibits of the movie props, and have the T-shirt, the stormtrooper outfit and Darth Vader mask to prove it. Our daughter claims she missed out on most of the Disney princesses, and doesn't seem to mind. Congrats on joining a fun blog!

    1. Cathy - A Darth Vader mask? I see you have chosen the path that leads to the Dark Side... We are kindred souls! Thanks for the congrats!

  5. Welcome, Ava! I'm a big sci-fi geek as well--one of my favorite all-time tv shows was Alien Nation. It was so under-appreciated. Now, I'm into The 100 and Continuum. Love those shows! I haven't really read a lot of sci-fi, however. Not sure why...mmmm....

    1. Margie -- I wish I had time to read more sci-fi and watch more shows these days... That darn family keeps me too busy :-) But I really loved watching Farscape and Firefly (before they were canceled). Glad to be on-board with you!

  6. Great post, Ava! Psst. I know where you can find a Stormtrooper mug. Totally legit Millennium Falcon contraband.

  7. Great blog, Ava! And, yes, I got every single one of your Star Wars/Star Trek references!

  8. I enjoyed your blog, Ava, although I didn't get most of the Star Wars references. Saw the first movie and was fascinated by the special effects much more than the story. And I'm not into 'hot' romance. But when your book is published, earmark a copy for me. I know it will be a fun read because your own personality will imbue itself into the story. And you're a fun person. Enthusiastic and humorous. Totally delightful.
