Yeah, Me, Too...

Like Liz, I'm one of those rare Baby Boomers who's never actually smoked grass or been high on anything illegal, although I do enjoy the occasional lovely wine buzz... However, there's nothing at all enjoyable about cough syrup and antibiotics and that has been my life for the past few days. Between the coughing and the sneezing and the headache and the ear pain (Yow!!) and the stuffy sinuses, I've been pretty darn miserable.

I have no qualms about showing you the selfie--me in my flannel squirrel jammies, a thick sweatshirt, and the socks that Lani Diane Rich knitted for me when I had my foot surgery a couple of years ago (I always wear them when I'm sick.) Okay, I confess, I ran a brush through my hair for the selfie, but otherwise, this is it. I haven't had my contacts in since last Thursday, red nose, no makeup, strictly the PJ thing, and mostly, I've been on the sofa under a blanket alternately coughing, moaning, and sleeping.

It's looked like this outside for the past two days, so I really don't feel all that bad about staying cozy inside my house.

Yesterday, Editor Nan managed to sit up at her PC for a few hours and work on a project for a client. I was surprised at how focused I was, but when I woke up, I felt pretty okay, so I used the little store of energy I had to get some work done. However, I spent the afternoon back on the couch snoozing. I've also managed to write in my journal the last couple of days, but I missed a day or two simply because it required more effort than I could muster. Those days' entries look like this: I'M SO SICK!!

But does that mean that I've abandoned all my creativity? Not particularly—Libby and Nick are still there, having conversations, building their relationship, figuring out their conflict . . . and coughing . . . oh, no wait, that’s me coughing. All in all, it’s been a rough start to the new year, but I’m not counting this as an omen. Rather, I’m looking at it as getting this crud out of the way, so I can have a strong and healthy 2016. How about you?

  4. It sounds as if you have one of those 10+ on the scale of "cold misery." So sorry, my friend. I do hope you feel better very soon--and you still look pretty!

    1. Yup, it went from sniffles to wicked in no time. Still coughing, but I'm doing better and hoping it's not just an antibiotic high! You're a sweetie, Rebecca! Thank you!

  5. Feel better soon! Don't rush it though, as these things have a way of repeating themselves. I ended up with horrible sinusitis on NY's Eve. Of course no doctors available for days. Ended up in urgent care, and even after a course of antibiotics I'm not completely over this. I haven't been to the gym in over ten days, haven't done much of anything. A few days ago I did start writing again, and that was a huge relief. :)
    Take good care of yourself!

    1. Oh, Roben, so sorry! You have my deepest sympathy! Yeah, I haven't been to the gym in a while, but I'm hoping that next week, I can start back. I need it! Feel better soon, okay? Hugs!

  6. I had a cold for a few days, but have otherwise been pretty healthy--knock on keyboard--my heart goes out to you because I hate being sick. And these days can't afford it, because I don't get sick days yet :( Crud's been going around work and I've been dosing on Airborne to ward it off. Take care and feel better soon!

    1. Thanks, Margie! I started the Airborne too late--you have to get it right when the symptoms begin or it doesn't work. Hope you stay healthy!!

  7. I started taking Elderberry capsules for my chronic sinus and frequent colds. It is the first thing that has ever helped me. I have't had a problem in over a year.

  8. Nan, hope you are on the mend. It seems like everyone has this crud and it is hard to get past it.
