Random Musings

I can't explain why, but I've been sitting here in front of my computer for the past hour and I still got nothing.

Maybe it's because I have the news on and like every day, it's filled with politics. Is anyone else as tired of politics as I am?  Why does our primary season have to be so freaking long? And why is it so antiquated??? It's the 21st century, people, why can't we have nationwide primary or at the very least several big primaries. By the time my state has it's caucus--another antique--the nominations should be pretty much locked up.

I love a good blustery day. We had a wind storm last night--they had hurricane force winds at the coast--but here, it was like 35-40mph gusts. And it's still a bit breezy. I imagine evergreen boughs litter the streets this morning.

On Tuesday, Jordan and I went to see Zootopia. It was a good animated movie. I stayed awake--so that tells you something. I think its amazing how timely it is. Animated movies take years to get to the screen, so the fact  that this movie, with it's underlying message of bigotry and prejudice, is out right now is incredible. I'm not going to give away the twist, but I think its the perfect movie for kids in this tumultuous political environment.

I was doing my taxes the other day and it just occurred to me--it's too bad we can't get a tax break for pet expenses. Between Mimi's cancer and Moxie eating one of my Metformin pills, my pets had more medical bills than my entire family put together. And then I thought, wouldn't it be great if we got a tax credit for pets? Not a lot, just like a thousand bucks per small pet, dogs and cats. Maybe horses you'd get more. And if you have a rescue pet, you'd get a one-time bonus credit. In the long run, we might be saving local governments money by housing and feeding pets that would be on the streets or in shelters. Just saying...

Writing's been going well, especially on the YA novel. I think I got close to 3K words this week on it. And a few hundred on another project. It's just a matter of staying in writing frame of mind--carrying my notebook everywhere with me, reading over what I last wrote, and thinking about the books while I'm driving or working.

Okay, that's it for me. I have to go dry my hair and head to work. Have a great Thursday.
