The Wranglers welcome author Chrys Fey to the round corral today.
An earthquake is the disaster I wrote about in Seismic
Crimes. It is a 7.4 on the Richter scale, causes underground parking lots to
collapse, gas leaks, fires, sink holes, and looting. I follow my characters,
Beth and Donovan, as they try to survive these dangerous situations that happen
nearly one right after the other. I often asked myself “What Would I Do?” I
don’t think I would’ve been as brave as the two of them. Actually, I’m quite
certain I wouldn’t be. So I wanted to dig further into this and tell you what I
would do if I were ever in an earthquake.
1. I’d stand in a doorway or hide under a table during the
quake.
2. When the shaking stopped, I would look for my cats, my
babies. I know they would be terrified and hiding under a bed or the couch. I’d
want to make sure they’re okay.
3. After that, I’d check the damage to the house. If
windows were broken, I’d have to make sure my cats wouldn’t get out. I’d
probably have to call my landlord, too, if there was damage to the house.
4. I’d call my sister to make sure she and my nephews were okay.
5. Now I’d finally check myself out. With my adrenaline
fading, I’d probably be shaking and hyperventilating. I was in a situation
earlier this year when I realized I was bleeding after I experienced my crash.
6. I’d turn on the news to listen to any reports. I’d want
to know the magnitude of the quake and what was going on in the rest of my state
and the US.
7. Check my computer. I’d turn it on to make sure it still
worked. If my computer got damaged, the writer in me would scream for weeks.
8. Start cleaning up. Most likely, I’d have to throw out a
lot of broken stuff and fix the books on my bookcase.
9. Post on my social media that I’m okay.
10. Write a blog post about my experience.
QUESTION: So, now tell me. What would
you do if you were in an earthquake?
BLURB:
An Internal Affairs
Investigator was murdered and his brother, Donovan Goldwyn, was framed. Now
Donovan is desperate to prove his innocence. And the one person who can do that
is the woman who saved him from a deadly hurricane—Beth Kennedy. From the
moment their fates intertwined, passion consumed him. He wants her in his arms.
More, he wants her by his side in his darkest moments.
Beth Kennedy may not know
everything about Donovan, but she can’t deny what she feels for him. It’s her
love for him that pushes her to do whatever she has to do to help him get
justice, including putting herself in a criminal’s crosshairs.
When a tip reveals the
killer's location, they travel to California, but then an earthquake of
catastrophic proportions separates them. As aftershocks roll the land, Beth and
Donovan have to endure dangerous conditions while trying to find their way back
to one another. Will they reunite and find the killer, or will they lose
everything?
