Book Mail

by Margie Senechal

Remember the old days when you looked forward to running out to get the mail because chances were you might get something better than junk ads or paper bills?

I used to stalk the mailbox as I had several pen pals at any given time. And I couldn't wait to get a letter. There was a reason "Mr. Postman" was my favorite song in the 70's.

So, in keeping with the reading theme, I'm going to tell you about a couple of book mail services.

The newest craze--in our house anyway--is crate mail. Kristen subscribed to Loot Crate which sends cool items similar to what one might find at Comic Con. My friend, Vicki, subscribes to Bark Box for her dog.

And then there are lit boxes. Here's a link to some.

Most of these start out around 30 bucks.

Kristen did Owlcrate two months in a row. She got some cool stuff but probably not worth what she spent and she still hasn't read the books.

I just signed up for Once Upon A Book Club because their January book description sounded just up my alley. Each gift comes with a page number that indicates when can open it. I only ordered one month just to see how it is. But, it sounds fun.

In the link I found another one that sends you a paperback for $9 and has four different themes--Austin, Earnest, YA, and MG. I didn't have time to really look into it, because I have to get this posted and leave for work. But, I am definitely going to go back to it.

So, just in case, you want to get a book surprise, here's your chance. Have a great day and happy reading!

  1. Thanks a lot, Margie! Another temptation right in my already cluttered path. :-)

  2. Oh, man! That sounds so cool! My grandson gets a box from a place called Citrus Lane...books, a little game or toy...such a cool idea!

    1. In first grade, I belonged to a Weekly Reader book club and still have a few of those left. Amazing considering they crossed the Atlantic twice--to and from Iceland. And then across the USA and to every home I've had as an adult.

  3. I've been looking at kid-friendly book clubs for a while - bebe loves to get mail, but rarely does. I think she'd get a kick out of it - and she is always in search of a new book.

    1. I bet they have one for her somewhere. And if not, I think we're onto a new business :)

  4. I hadn't heard of any of these before. Sure beats the bills and junk mail I usually get in the mail. Like Kristina said, this would be fabulous for a kid. Adults too, actually. I used to belong to the Harlequin book club and I'd get their monthly books in whatever line I'd subscribed to. I loved it, but I it was hard getting anything done with all those lovely books to read!

    1. I had a friend who belonged to the Harlequin club, too. She introduced to my first one by Heather Allison/McAllister.
