Finding My Motivation

I’m back from holidays, and it’s time for real life once more. That means back to the part-time day job, back to laundry and cleaning house, and especially, back to getting my three-book series ready for launching.

This is my first serious venture into self-publishing. I’m in awe of Nan and her Women of Willow Bay self-published series. (Just bought my copy, btw. Can't wait to read it.) Already at book 4! Amazing. I’m beginning to understand the effort it took to get there.

I’m currently in the editing stage. Since these three books are so closely related, I decided to write all three of them at once so I could publish them very closely together. That means editing (and paying for professional editing) three books back to back to back. The good news about working on all three books at the same time is that I can still make changes to book one if there’s something I want to change about the story in book three. But it’s a lot of work. I need a little push to keep going.

So, today my post is all about motivation and getting to the finish line. The Invictus Games (which means unconquered in Latin) is an international Paralympic-style multi-sport event, created by advisors of Prince Harry, in which wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel and their associated veterans from many countries take part in sports. This year the games were held in Toronto and they are concluding today. To hear the stories of these competitors and to learn what they’ve been through and how far they’ve come, truly humbles and awes me. Their stories are so inspiring and motivating.

And Prince Harry and his girlfriend Meghan Markle are at the games, so that’s pretty cool, too! For some pictures of them together, click here.

What motivates you to get to the finish line?

  1. The closer I get to the end, the more motivated I am. In the middle, alas, I'm still always certain I'll NEVER get done. I'm off to read about the Invictus Games...

    1. Isn't it a great moment when you can actually get a glimpse of the finish line? It's such a relief, and like you said, it gives you that push you need to get to the end. Aside from that, when I'm in the middle and I think I'll never finish and this is the worst thing ever written, I tell myself I've finished books before. Having done it before, I know it's possible to do it again.

  2. I’m with Liz—when I have the end in sight—that seems to motivate me the most. I’ve seen pics of Prince Harry and the Invictus—thanks for word lesson, btw—Games. I love the video of the little girl stealing his popcorn. He seems like such a fun, nice guy.

  3. “The end” is really only the beginning, isn’t it? You can do this!!

    1. Yes, it's definitely only the beginning. After editing, I need to finalize my blurbs, my covers, create a launch strategy, etc.,etc.,etc. Thanks for the pep talk, Ava!
