Thoughts like shooting stars...

This week has been a out-of-sorts week. My hours and days off are all messed up because of the holiday and family emergencies of my co-management team. It's hard to stay in routine when life and death get in the way. So, this post is going to be all over the place because that's how my week has been.

Yesterday, I spent most of the day at the hospital, waiting for a friend who was having a brain tumor removed. I sat with his parents and girlfriend, who's also a friend and didn't have family available. I've had tons of hospital experience over the years with my dad, and luckily I've always had my mom and my sisters. We're a unit. I don't think anyone should wait for dire news without support. So, even though I took my writing, none got done. We played phase 10, farkle, put a small jigsaw puzzle together, stared blankly at the history channel, talked, and waited. I'm happy to say he came through the surgery with flying colors. They got the entire tumor, were able to do so without cutting into his face, and rebuilt some of skull without having to put in a metal plate. All-in-all, good news. I hear they're moving him out of ICU this afternoon.

They have pumpkin pie poptarts out right now. I had to buy some because they're pumpkin pie.

Last month I read a book called LUCY, by Lawrence Gonzales, about a girl who's part human and part bonobo ape. I loved it. I thought it was going to be a thriller, after all it was compared to Michael Crichton, but it was oh, so much more. And then this afternoon, I picked up Sara Gruen's THE APE HOUSE, at B&N when I sat down to have a coffee. I have to admit, I'm becoming more than a little enamored and intrigued with the bonobo apes.

My yard is still waiting for my help. I promised my husband I'd do it on Tuesday and woke to pouring rain. Even God wants me to write. At least that's what I told my husband.

Have you ever read a book and you can't really start a new book for a few days because the last book left you so moved you can't get it out of your head? This weekend I finished MOCKINGJAY by Suzanne Collins--the third and final Hunger Games book---and oh, my gosh. What a great book. And possibly the best last line of a book that I've ever read.

Last week my sister and I took our kids to Oaks Park, an amusement park in Portland. I wanted to go to research my book, but it ended up being a great time for all of us. Love those moments.
Like a shooting star, they're bright, fleeting, but oh, so wonderful.
