Who or What Inspires Me?

I've never really thought about it. My family and most friends support my writing but they don't inspire me. Most of them have never even read my stories. I've been an avid reader since I was four and once I hit my teen years, wanted to write. But I didn't try until after I got married. You know the drill from here. Kids, job, life, kept me from it. Once my children got older, I got bored. So, at my husband's urging to do something for myself, I turned on the screen and started writing. It was a disaster. The most hideous drivel to ever hit a computer screen. So I did some research, joined some writer's groups, started reading again, and discovered...

Sherrilyn Kenyon. She's one of my favorite writers. She put out the story of her writing journey on facebook once and I was even more impressed by her. There were times when she was living out of her car and still managed to write. I feel like I have to clarify here. She inspired me to write paranormals. I love writing them. Although I don't write vampires, werewolves or shapeshifters, I love reading about them. Maybe one day I'll be inspired to write something else. But right now? Paranormals all the way. How about you? What inspires you and your stories?

  1. Good post, Shawn, and I think our favorite writers ARE our inspirations in a way.

  2. You are so right, Liz. I always knew I liked paranormal shows, but I fell in love when I read one. When I was able to turn my dreams(which are ALWAYS weird) to stories,I got really excited. Sherrilyn Kenyaon just made me feel it was actually possible.

  3. Great post, Shawn! I had no idea what Sherrilyn's pre-published road was like. Very inspiring, indeed!

  4. Wow! I had no idea about Sherrilyn k's pre-pubbed life was like either. I can see why she would inspire, although I have never read her.
