Making Me Cry

This week I took a break from writing while I wait for the beta reads to come back. I've done a little brainstorming and jotting down, but I'm letting things percolate while I get caught up with the things I've been procrastinating on over the past six months or year. Maybe I'll even clean my house--watch out dust bunnies!

One of the things I have done is go to the movies. Okay to be honest, I go to the movies almost every week--we have a great $5 deal on Tuesdays which just happens to be my day off.

But I digress. Back to making me cry.

I want to make this clear, I am not by any stretch of the imagination a crier. In fact, in sixth grade on the bus home from Camp Bonneville, Kelly Miller called me heartless as I was the only girl on the bus not crying.

But tears came from two unexpected places:

The first one: Men In Black 3. Seriously.

I know. I can't believe it either. Who'd have thunk it?

Movie review: Four stars.

I think this was probably my favorite MIB movie and possibly because of the unexpected emotional and sentimental moments. I was especially surprised because--if I remember correctly--they didn't have a complete script when they began filming. So, kudos to the writers for a winning movie.

Then the other day we went to see Snow White and the Huntsman. Good movie--although I think it was unfair to cast Charlize Theron as the evil Queen. She's too beautiful. Who can ever imagine to be more beautiful? Even in her aged makeup, she was still stunning. So, it was hard to believe that she was threatened by the beauty of Kristen Stewart--no offense, Ms. Stewart--I'd have trouble thinking the evil queen as portrayed by Charlize--threatened by anyone.

Okay, again with the digressing. I didn't cry at Snow White and the Huntsman, but I did tear up at one of the trailers.

Anne Hathaway should win an Oscar nomination for that performance alone. My 22 year-old daughter and my sisters were all teared up at the preview. However my tween nephews, not so much.

Any unexpected tears from you???

  1. I cry over movies (I think I own stock in Puffs tissues simply because I watch the Hallmark channels), but not so much over real life.

    Nice post, Margie.

  2. I cry at the drop of a hat, Margie...I've tried to not be a crier. It doesn't work, so I just embrace the cry.

Every flippin' time I hear Over You by Miranda Lambert DH gives me a bucket for the water loss.

    1. I've only had a couple of those. When Dolly Parton sings "I honestly love you" at the end of The Best Little Whorehouse..

Sheena Easton's "Wind Beneath My Wings" because I always think of my sister--and we heard Sheena's version long before Bette's.

      and The Night Chicago Died.

  3. Like Kristi, I cry, cry, cry.

I don't plan to see MIB, not my cuppa. But I do plan to see SWH. Just on video...

    1. I totally would've pegged your for a cryer, D. You're filled with emotion. I think that's one of your best writing traits.

    1. My dad used to scoff at us for watching Little House because he said Michael Landon wanted to make you cry. LOL.

  5. I cry at movies, weddings, funerals, and even sad stories in books. I would not have expected MIB to be a tear-jerker though. Now I want to see it even more.

    1. Patricia, definitely worth seeing :) Last night I caught the first one on cable and I think the third is probably the best of the bunch.
