My daughter and I love to trail ride. We take the horses and dogs to the mountains as often as we can. We love to take familiar trails, where we know each turn and twist in the trail. We ride through meadows and take pictures of flowers and leaves. Each trip we find something new. Here my daughter is getting ready to cross a stream.
Occasionally, we do something different. We take a new trail, or go completely off the trail and just meander. That's a fun thing to do...just explore.
Those days remind me of starting a new story. If you're like me and a pantster, you don't know what's coming or what you'll discover. Where you'll go or what surprises lay in store.
I'm about to begin a new story, and my heart is pounding with anticipation. I can't wait to discover these characters, find what makes them tick.
It's exactly like trail riding and exploring a new trail.
Sounds exciting! I love the photo you posted.
ReplyDeleteSo jealous you get to ride off like that. It sounds so wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI agree D'Ann. One of the best parts about being a pantser is not knowing where you're going.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful picture! And I couldn't agree with your theory more. A new trail is like a new beginning. Blaze your own.
ReplyDeleteI love the start of a new story, D'Ann, and I'm right there with you - starting the next book. The anticipation of a blank page and the potential of a new story are addictive!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is the path you don't intend to takt that leads to the best views! All the best!
ReplyDeleteWell said, D'Ann. I just sent my second book off to a publisher, and now I'm wondering which of the stories in my head to go with next. It's like opening a new box of Godiva and trying to decide which delicious piece to sample first.
ReplyDeleteNew starts are like a box of chocolate's. And who doesn't' love that?
ReplyDeleteI love new stories, too, especially since I have to kind of tamp them down or I'll never get the old one finished!
ReplyDeleteStarting a new story is what I do best. Now if I could just finish them.
ReplyDeleteLove spontaneous adventures--whether real life or literary. Great post D!
