Chasing Rainbows!

I took this picture earlier this summer. It was in the field up the road from me. I got in the car and drove a ways to get a better look. Of course, the closer I got, the further it moved. There was no way I was ever going to get to that rainbow.

It's a lot like writing.

What the heck are you talking about, D'Ann, you ask?

Just that so many people go into publishing with the idea that because they wrote a book they have
arrived! Book tours, book signings, and yes, money and fame weren't far behind. They had found the pot at the end of the rainbow.

Oh, sure, a lucky few are going to get that pot of gold. But the sad truth is, like my rainbow chase of the other day, most of us won't ever get it. There is a lot of writers out there grabbing for it.

So, what to do? Give up? Go home and sulk?

Oh, hell no!

You get tough. You cowgirl up. Pull on your boots and tighten your belt. Because the only way you're ever going to catch that elusive rainbow is to try and try again.

I'm off! The rain has stopped...and you know what that means!

  3. This is just what I needed to read! I am in the middle of editing my eBook "Hurricane Crimes". It will be my debut, and, just as with every writer, I do have those fantasies of making it big time in publishing, though I know this is unlikely to happen. But HELL I am going to cowgirl up anyway! :D

  4. Yep, I'm all for chasing rainbows and writing dreams. One day my ship will come in...and if it doesn't, I'll die thinking it's at the next shore.
