Are you a jeans girl?

You all know Kristi. She’s the Wednesday Wrangler who writes yummy contemporary romances and has this adorable little girl who’s gonna be a cowgirl like D’Ann, the Tuesday Wrangler who writes yummy contemporary westerns that could easily make me break out in the Bonanza theme even though, seriously, you don’t want to hear me do that.
Well, tonight on Facebook, Kristi said, “I just saw an ad for 'dress pant yoga pants'. Um, I love my yoga pants...but I wouldn't wear 'em to an office - not even on casual Friday. That's just a little...too much. What do you think?”
          I was aghast.

Because, personally, I would wear my yoga pants anywhere I couldn’t comfortably wear my pajamas. Church. Job interviews. Inaugurations. Weddings. Funerals. Or anywhere in public. (Yes, I’m old. I don’t think pajamas belong outside the perimeter of the back yard.) My friend Nan Reinhardt—who’s not a Wrangler but who visits occasionally and writes
yummy contemporary romances with over-40 heroines—introduced me to yoga pants. Sleek black ones from Land’s End that look—I gotta confess—dressier than my black dress pants.
While I’m confessing—yeah, it’s getting down and dirty here—I have to say it.
          I’m not a jeans girl.
It’s not that I don’t like them. I do. On every teenager in the world who wears the waistband above his or her thighs. On every guy in the world who looks good in them. On everyone in the world who can get them to fit. I can’t. I mean, I probably could if I was willing to pay three figures for a pair of jeans, but I’m not. I do have a pair I got last month that I wear when I absolutely need to not wear my pajamas or my yoga pants. They look okay and they’re kind of stretchy, and they’re a good change.
But I’m not a jeans girl.
You may say, Hey, Liz, what has any of this to do with writing? Well, nothin’. But it’s Kristi’s fault. She started the whole thing.

So how about it? Do you think yoga pants can be dressy? Are you a jeans girl? Come on in and talk—we wanna know!

  1. Oh, baby! Yoga pants, especially Land's End performance sport pants, go anywhere. I do wear jeans sometimes but I seriously live in my yoga pants because I can dress them down with a hoodie or up with a spangly top. Glad you like them too! Oh, and thanks for the shout-out! You're the best!

    1. They are wonderful. What I didn't tell in the post is that since I only have one pair of those super-pants, I spend most of my non-pajama time in sweats. :-)

  2. I can't imagine yoga pants ever being dressy. Same goes for jeans, though. But I do wear jeans - every day. I love 'em.

    1. I wish I loved them. I used to. But they just aren't comfortable anymore. Sigh.

  3. jeans *and* yoga pants, thankyouverymuch ... although jeans have a *slight* advantage - because with the right jacket and boots they really are 'go anywhere'. But, as long as we're confessing - I've worn my yoga pants 1) to the store 2) to the doctors office 3) to church (shhh, don't tell my mom that last one)! :)

    1. I agree about the jacket and jeans part, but my yoga pants are very at home wherever we go. :-)

  4. Thanks for the lovely shout-out! I have a pair of blue yoga pants that I love more than my luggage (from Steel Magnolias, Google it), but I don't wear them anywhere but down the road or working. I'm not thin, crazy or old enough yet to wear them anywhere else. I love jeans, live in them!

    1. I remember that line! Olympia Dukakis in the cemetery! I've seen that movie so many times. I look better in my yoga pants BECAUSE I'm not thin. Sigh. They're not the skin-tight kind. But, honestly, if I could find jeans I stayed comfortable in, I'd wear them.

  5. I love my jeans! My closet is full of them. I don't own any yoga pants.

    1. I'm anxious to hear the verdict when you get your first pair. Get black, non-shiny...

  6. I'm not quite sure what defines yoga pants but I'm going to look at the ones you suggest from Land's End. I hang about the house in old elastic waist band trousers and go out in jeans--jeans go anywhere these days.

    1. They are sooo comfortable, Andi. It's hard to wear anything else!

  7. I'm a leggings girl. Because I HATE the low-rise trend (no one but super models can avoid muffin top in low-rise!), I shop for pants in the exercise section. I love a good stretchy legging with a high waist. Paired with loose, stylish tops that fall to my hips or below, I feel it's a flattering look for just about any body shape.

    1. I love leggings, too, especially the thicker, textured ones, but have developed skinny legs as I've...matured. One time I had on navy leggings and a yellow shirt and someone I worked with dubbed me Big Bird. We--myself included!--laughed about it all day, but I never wore the outfit again.

  8. I wear jeans because I hate spandex, but that's a whole other story. I'm still able to find the ones that hit at the waist, so will keep wearing jeans as long as they make that style! When my jeans get tight though, I'm a p.j.s girl. Thanks for the fun post!

    1. I thought I would like the elastic-waist ones, but I don't. They don't "ride" right. Sigh. Love the pjs, though! :-)

  9. I love my jeans and love my yoga pants. Yesterday, I went to a shower/brunch and women were at the restaurant in their yoga pants. It didn't seem right, you know?

    1. I agree that some don't, but I'll still be there in mine. They're dressy-looking, which I like, and they never get that faded look some black knits acquire. Thanks for coming!

  10. Liz, it has a lot to do with writing! You need to be comfortable when you're sitting a chair with your hands on the keyboard. And I HATE doing it in blue jeans. Especially if they fit the way my sisters tell me jeans should fit. In other words, tight and restricting. I'm with you on the yoga pants, girl!!

    1. Absolutely! Or at least, it's what I'm going to use as a reason. :-) Thanks for coming by, Monica!
