The Happiest Place On Earth?

In just about a week, RadioMan, bebe and I will be at the Happiest Place on Earth. This has been a really, truly crazy winter and this trip has kept RadioMan and I sane through the hours of snow blowing/shoveling, all the missed days of school, the cold-cold days when we couldn't even leave the house and...well, the list goes on.

And now we're getting ready to leave and checking weather patterns and starting to pack up some summer-ish clothes - because it will be WARM there! - and I just keep thinking: where did the time go when we were just looking forward to the trip?

I always do this, and I have since I was a kid so it's not one of those 'you're over 30 and that means time is flying by' things. I always look forward and dream and plan and wonder and then, boom!, what I was thinking about and looking forward to is here. And I'm still excited but I kind of still want that expectation, too.

Do you get like that? Am I completely crazy?

Anyhow, as I was dragging our suitcases down from the attic and making bebe try on her summer things to make sure things are still fitting correctly, I realized that I already have the happiest place on earth: my home, where I run when bad and good things happen, the place I think about on every trip we take and the place where bebe first came to be really, truly, 100% ours. It's just a small house - 3 bedrooms, not a gourmet kitchen and a bathroom that I threaten to completely tear apart at least once a month. But it's ours and we love it.

It's home, and to me home is happiness.

So, while I'm in the Happiest Place On Earth I'll also probably be pining (a little bit, not a lot, there will be RIDES there and I'm doing one of those Princess Makeovers, don't doubt it!) for our Always Happy Place.

I came across these Rules for Happiness a week or so ago and thought this would be a good time to share them.

What about you: where is your happy place? And what is one of the rules you have about finding or deepening your personal happiness?

  1. I agree Disney is the happiest place on earth. I always mourn when we leave and go back to the real world. Home is a place to rest up between visits to the Magic Kingdom. :) Home does have Iits charm however. Great post, Kristi.

  2. Never been to the Magic Kingdom...someday. But I actually don't like to travel. I like to be home.

    1. I love to travel - but nothing is better than coming through the door once we're home. Well, until I realize there is laundry to do and groceries to be shopped for...

  5. I love to travel. Went to Disney once when I was a child and had a ball. My happy place is a nice quiet vacation with just me and hubby. But sometimes, my happy place changes. Sometimes, my happy place is my home filled with family.

    1. I think our 'happy place' is kind of dependent on who we're with, too, Shawn.
