Famous? Not In My Book!

By now the whole world knows how I have HUGE crush on Kid Rock. I talked about it last week on here if you care to read how something so weird happened to me. Ha!

What my oh-so-silly crush have to do with anything, you ask?

Well, all this crushing on Kid Rock has made me want to write a book about a rock star from Detroit who meets up with a small town farm girl...!

Well, partially.

I'm not foolish enough to base my book on anything Kid Rock does, or has done. Please, no Pamela Anderson jokes here! Ha!

Another author wasn't so wise...

Actress Scarlett Johansson has sued author Gregoire Delacourte because he has a character who looks just like the movie star.

Read all about it here: http://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/may/17/scarlett-johansson-tony-blair-celebrities-in-novels

So, I'm curious...has a crush, or any other reason ever lead you to write a book based on someone famous?

  1. I read about that! I must admit that one of my first attempts (I was in junior high) was about the lead singer of a group called the Gantreys. I don't remember his name, but he had long blond hair and rode horses. Be still, my heart! Good post, D.

  3. I working on a contemp about a show like The Bachelor. I hope they don't think I'm trying to steal their idea...that would be bad, but it's such a great idea for a romance, especially when the hunk doesn't fall for one of the girls the show brought in for him...teehee.

    1. I had one of those, too, at one time, Allie. I scrapped it, but it was fun.

  4. Well yes. I have a crush on Dean and Castiel from the T.V. show Supernatural. I really want to write a fan-fic. LOL, I think it would be fun.

  5. I don't get a lot of crushes so it's not a problem for me. I do like George Clooney because of his good looks and excellent movie roles. However, I've never based a character on him--hmm--maybe I should.

  7. I would love to have the guts to write about a famous person... I just usually write about my own local crushes!

  8. I haven't, but I have lots of crushes!

  9. Even if a famous person captivates me, to keep me safe I would change their name, make up their back story, which hopefully would not be accurate, so no one could sue me. I just let them inspire me and then I create who I think they are.

Once I wrote a book about a woman who had a self correction editing program. It was actually an AI, but she didn't know that. So it would change her fiction into fact as she sent it off to the editor. (What the editor received wasn't what she wrote. This meant she was always getting sued, and had several groups who wished her dead.

Turns out Nobody likes the truth.

  10. I've never written anything based on a real person, but some of my characters do resemble celebrities. Thankfully, none of my covers look like anyone famous.

  11. I'll never tell - LOL! If I did base my character's description on someone famous (and lots of writers do), I'd never let the cat out of the bag by name dropping it.

  12. Hmm, honestly not yet but your asking just may have inspired me, lol. Not to mention your own crush share.

  13. In high school, my stories were based on unrequited crushes. Does that count?? My characters could say the things I never had the nerve to say.

  14. Well, I've kinda based Jameson (from the Love and Music Books) on Keith Urban, but in the way of when I picture Jameson playing guitar, I imagine Keith Urban because Keith plays that guitar with such passion. That's probably the closest to basing a book/character on someone famous.
