What Kid Rock Did For Me

Do you have a type? A certain build or look that attracts you? I think most people do. I do. Everyone on the planet knows I love Timothy Olyphant, the actor who plays Raylan Givens on Justified. He's a badass on the right side of the law--most of the time. He's clean cut, wears a hat, jeans and boots. He shoots first and asks questions later. He's sexy as hell. I hope some of my heroes are as yummy-licious as both the actor and the character he plays.

I wish I could post pics, but copyright and all that... If you don't know what Timothy Olyphant looks like you're missing out. Here's a Facebook fan page I belong to if you want a glimpse of sexy personified: https://www.facebook.com/groups/olyphantlas2/permalink/647423181978529/

But, recently, my affections for Tim/Raylan have strayed a little bit.

A little bit???

Try a 180 spin.

I am in love lust with Kid Rock.

I know! Right?!!!

American badass. A rebel without a cause. A dirty white boy ... http://www.kidrock.com/

He couldn't be further from what usually attracts me. Long hair. Goatee. He likes strippers and porn stars. He says fuck a lot in his songs. My absolute favorite is Run Off To LA and these lines:

"we can be friends like you talked about, but first, give me back the pearls and the keys to my fuckin' house..."
and this one really touches me..."you get what you put in, and people get what they deserve."

and White Boy-Black Chick

you can look those lyrics up yourself...they're raw.

A long ways from my usual country music! LOL

But that boy opens his mouth and I just melt. Into a puddle. I'm like a 7th grader all over again. I listen to his music, I look up his dating history on the internet and I talk about him all day long with all my friends. The other day on Facebook, a few friends had quite the fantasy going all about where we'd take him and what we'd do to him when we got him there. Let's just say we're not romance writers for nothing!  LOL

Friends IM me and tell me I'm not alone. They'd do him in a Detroit minute.

So...what is it about this man that's making me so ... squirmy?

His voice?

Of course.

The dirty lyrics?

That, too.

But it's more than that. It's just this thing...this unexplainable sex appeal the man has ... for me ... and about forty billion other women!

So, what does all this have to do with us, as writers?

Simple, really.

Thank you, Kid Rock, for reminding me that we have to figure out a way to bring that wanting, that longing and that I just wanna fuck you feeling you to our characters ... because THAT unexplainable attraction is where romance begins....!

  1. I agree. I don't go for the Kid Rock type but he's a Detroit man through and through. When he writes about growing up here, he pulls at my heart. I get it. I live here too! I know the angst of being different in an area that has felt conflict.

I think it's his softer side that gets me hottest. He really does have one even being American Bad Ass. :)

  2. I like this voice and how he looks, but think I'm a generation away from liking his music. :-)

    1. Liz, try the softer songs like Picture and Collide. I think you'll love them.

  3. Romance writers need their own fantasies so they create them for readers.

  4. Great post, D'Ann! Not a huge Kid Rock fan, but I get it. When he sings about growing up here, it touches my heart because I grew up here too. And if we didn't have fantasies it would be awfully hard to be a romance writer :)

  5. I love Kid Rock. I love his music, his edginess, his look. But most of all, I love his attitude. He has a raw sexiness about him.

I'm not into oiled-up, shaved-from-within-an-inch of their lives, models. I like a man who is rough around the edges, with callouses on his hands, and with REAL stubble on his chin because he just hates to shave, lolol.

(I do get Kid Rock. There is something about him, that seems down to earth and approachable, even if a bit er, scruffy.)

  13. I've seen him in concert four times and check his website religiously hoping he'll tour close to me this year. Unfortunately I don't think he will :-( I have all of his CD's and probably know the lyrics to all of his songs (I definitely know the lyrics to all of his older songs. Not so much the newer ones because I don't like those as much). His shows are pure entertainment. He is mesmerizing live. Okay, I'll hop off my fangirl crush now :-)
