Sports Nut? Not so much--

Anyone who knows me knows I love a good movie. I try to make it to at least a movie a week--usually on $5 Tuesday. What you may not know is that the movies I can't not watch are sports movies.

Which is weird because I'm not exactly a sports nut. Sure, I watched most of the Super Bowl this year--because the Seahawks were in it. I am a Washingtonian, after all and I knew everyone would be talking about it everywhere. And I did watch parts of the Blazers playoffs--but mostly because it was on the screen with my husband and daughter watching. And during Draft Day when they showed footage of Joe Montana, my heart skipped a beat as I remembered how much I'd loved to watch that man play.

So, I was thinking about this--how I'm not a sports nut, but my favorite movies involve sports. And I think I figured it out. It's the drama.

Will Keanu Reeves lead the Replacements to a playoff spot?

Will the Titans unite a divided town?

Will Mark Wahlberg make the Eagles proud?

My newest favorite is 42. Oh my gosh--I never realized what Jackie Robinson had to got through. And Chadwick Boseman is amazing in the role. The first time I watched this movie in the theater, I was teared up throughout the movie. Injustice does that to me.

So, maybe it's great drama. Maybe it's the man candy. Maybe it's just great storytelling, but whatever the reason, the next time a sports movie is on tv, that's where you'll find me.

  2. In real life I really only like high school sports and things like Little League. And the Celtics when Larry Bird played. And the Colts. Well, anyway, I'm with you on the movies. There is always heroism, competition, and friendship--all Good Things. Enjoyable post, Margie!

  3. I love sports movies, too, Margie! And watching sports, although I'd rather be *at* a game than watching on TV. RadioMan got me interested and I keep coming back to them. One of my faves is For Love of the Game (baseball + Kevin Costner = particular fave), but I really enjoyed Draft Day, too. Funny thing, RadioMan didn't like DD - he thought there was too little sports! lol

    1. I like Love Of The Game too. Although, I'd watch Keven Costner eat cereal, so I'm not sure I'm the best judge :)

  4. Me, I'm a nut for Major League. Tom Berenger lights my fire and Wesley Snipes makes me laugh. I can quote lines from that movie.
    thanks for a great post!
