Desert Heat or Desert Cold?

I love this book. I generally write about cowboys and the ladies who love them, but this one is about a guest ranch owner...

I can't give this book away...literally.

Here's the blurb:

Mallory James’ missing father’s body is discovered in an unused cabin on an Arizona guest ranch. He leaves her half a treasure map. Will tracing it bring much needed closure?

Beleaguered resort owner Mike Malone discovers half a treasure map, and desperate, he pockets it. Doing so goes against his moral code…but could a lost mine save his beloved ranch?

Can Mike and Mallory find gold, finality…and love?

I am not pimping this book...so no buy links or any of that.

What I would like to know is it the cover? I hope not... I love the cover. Or is it my blurb? Or is it straying from my cowboys? Any constructive thoughts welcomed.

Thanks!

  1. Hi, D. I got no answers here. It's a great story. I liked the other cover it had, but that's just a taste thing--nothing wrong with this one.

  2. Question on your blurb. Do they each have half a map or did he pocket her half and if so, how did she know she had half a map left to her? I think the cover is fine, but the blurb needs work. Too many questions. Last sentence should be the only question. Example, Doing so goes against everything he believes in but the gold could save his beloved ranch. Can Mike and Mallory find the treasure and true love?

  3. I think the cover matches the title perfectly! And the story rocks!! I agree with Cindy-too many questions in the blurb.
    Here's a suggestion-but I'm awful at these :)

When Mallory James’ missing father’s body is discovered with half a treasure map she is honor-bound to find the other half. Tracing it might bring much needed closure, but the man who holds the other half presents a danger to her heart.

Beleaguered resort owner Mike Malone discovers half a treasure map which, if he could find the other half might save his beloved ranch. But, the woman who holds the other piece of his future is determined...fill in conflict here :)

Can Mike and Mallory find the treasure and true love?-good ending from Cindy. Would keep.

    1. I'm tagging on to Jennifer here... I agree with Cindy and Jenn... I don't think it's your cover... I think it's the blurb. I really like what Jenn suggested.

    2. I'm tagging on to Jennifer's comment as well. I love the cover! I think it may be the blurb as well because of the questions.

      Jennifer's suggestion is fantastic!

My only additional suggestions would be to 1) change "the other half" in the first sentence to something else to avoid the repetition of "half/other half." Maybe "the rest of it"

If you go with my previous suggestion, change "Tracing it" in the second sentence to "Following the read dotted line" or something like that (to avoid "it")

In the second half, change "the other half" to something else, like "its counterpart" "its match" etc

      Love the ending :-)

  4. Love the cover, D'Ann - and love the suggestions you've already gotten. Good luck!

  5. I think it's a good cover for romantic suspense.

  6. I also agree that the cover is fab and maybe you can add a snippet to the blurb.... A Romantic Suspense by D'Ann Lindun. If you love her cowboys, you'll love her hunky treasure hunter...

  7. I'm perhaps the worst person to ask about why some books move and some don't. I'm beginning to believe it's sheer randomness. Here's my shot in the dark--your other covers suggest contemporary western. This one (which is awesome, by the way) screams romantic suspense. Some sub-genres might sell better than others?

  9. I LOVE this cover. I liked the other one too, but I like this one more. Others had the same questions as I did about the blurb, but I'd still buy it. And I do want it. Can you send me the link for this version?

  10. Okay i'm probably going to be in the minority here but i don't like this cover something about it bugs me and i'm not sure what it is it might be the skull image and also how dark the image is i'm not sure i liked its previous cover better. As it is now if this was the cover of a book for an author i'd never heard of before i probably wouldn't buy it. That being said i love the story and it bugs me that the readers aren't falling in love with the book. I know this probably isn't what you wanted to hear but i wanted to be honest.

  11. the blurb is enticing, though maybe too many questions as stated above. I feel with melissa on the skull. But that's not my cup of tea and might make me pass it over if it was on a shelf. Story sounds intriguing though. I didn't see any previous covers so can't judge on that.
