My Romance with Romance

Please join the Wranglers in welcoming our guest, Abigail Owen.

I once had a good friend help me move. Okay, I moved a LOT in my 20s and my awesome friends helped every time. But in this instance, this particular friend who'd known me since middle school discovered my stash of romance novels. He said, "I've always claimed I can tell who someone is by what they read, and your bookshelves (lots of classics, Star Wars, and Michael Crichton) have had me stumped for years. But now that I see these, it all makes sense!"

My romance book stash started with my Mom. She was an avid Regency romance reader. When I was about twelve I started to get interested in her book shelves. She wrote what age I was allowed to read each one on the inside cover. I fell in love with authors like Marion Chesney and Jane Smith. When I visited Mom a few years ago, I "borrowed" some of my old favs.

A few years later I discovered used book stores and bought a large stack of Harlequins from the
70s. These were the start of my own stash. I became a huge fan of authors like Kerry Allyne, Dorothy Cork, and Sheila Douglas. I still reread most of these books. By reread, I mean to the point where I've had to hunt down newer copies in used book stores because mine are falling apart.

I discovered Betty Neels in a gas station on a long drive with my family. I found Johanna Lindsey through my college roommate. As I got older, and transitioned to an employed adult, I started to add to my stash monthly. (I love that series romance comes out so regularly, because I read very fast.) I added more authors to my favs lists: Penny Jordan, Catherine Gordon, Lynne Graham and Miranda Lee.

With the advent of my Kindle (possibly my favorite device ever) and
now my Kindle app on my computer, my romance reading has expanded to more great publishers/authors including Lucy Monroe, Teresa Carpenter, Rebecca Zanetti, Kristin Miller, Heather Killough-Walden... I could go on and on. The easy access and instant gratification has been dangerous for me. On my Kindle alone I have over 400 books with more than 200 authors, and most of those are romances.

In other words. I love to read about love!

This gives you an idea of my romance with romance novels. I'd love to hear your story of falling in love with this wonderful genre of books? Which books or authors continue to be favorites?

Andromeda’s Fall (Shadowcat Nation #1)

Andromeda Reynolds is being hunted. After witnessing her mother’s violent death at the hands of a pack of wolf shifters, Andie has devoted her life to protecting her community of cougar shifters from a similar fate. But now, a greater threat lies within her own dare, and she must run. If she stays, Kyle Carstairs will force their mating, seeking the added political power their union would provide.

Andie would rather chew off her own foot than end up with Kyle. Though, knowing him, she won’t live long either way. Andie’s only hope of survival is to mate Jaxon Keller, the Alpha of the Keller Dare with which she is seeking asylum. But before she can get to him, Andie must first go through A.J., one of the Alpha’s Protectors.

What Andie doesn’t realize is that A.J. has secrets of his own. All Andie knows is that the incredibly frustrating shifter insists on challenging her story, her skills, her trust… and her heart.

  2. I too have a book addiction, Abigail. Unfortunately, my husband does as well. We recently moved and had to give up some of our collection. I had to keep reminding myself that they'd bring joy to their new owners.
BTW, we both read everything. Yes, my husband reads romance. That's what has made him such a great partner for 34+ years.
