A Bit of Wednesday Inspiration

I love reading through books and magazine articles and even websites with quotes from famous people. Its an interesting peek into the psyches of inventors and authors, painters and athletes, politicians or even religious leaders. Aspirational and inspirational quotes are my favorite - I can't tell you how many Buzzfeed lists I've gotten sucked into because they began with famous quotes!
I thought I'd share a few quotes with you guys today because...well, who doesn't need a little inspiration on a Wednesday?

This quote is one of my absolute favorites. I'd heard it before but a few weeks ago RadioMan and I were lunching at Jimmy Johns (they make awesome subs, try 'em sometime) and I noticed that they had famous quotes in different areas on their walls. The Nora quote above was one of them and it struck me that day how right she is. We often limit ourselves by following rules (not that all rules should be broken) or not pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones...and when we do that, the answer is always no. No, we can't write a book if we never start. No, we can't improve (in any area) if we don't learn from our mistakes.

Henry Ford said something similar, "Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you are right."

Here's another goodie, this time from Van Gogh, "If you hear a voice within you say “you cannot paint,” then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced." (I think we could substitute writing for painting...or photography or baseball or, really anything.

And here's one more, again from Nora..what can I say? I like what she says out loud as much as I like what is written on the page. And I think this, especially, is true, "When you find somebody you love, all the way through, and she loves you—even with your weaknesses, your flaws, everything starts to click into place. And if you can talk to her, and she listens, if she makes you laugh, and makes you think, makes you want, makes you see who you really are, and who you are is better, just better with her, you’d be crazy not to want to spend the rest of your life with her."

Okay, Wranglers, share a quote with me ~ something inspirational, aspirational, silly, sweet...maybe just a little bit 'bad'...And Happy Wednesday!

  1. Winnie the Pooh is my favorite sage of all time, so I went looking for a new quote from him and found a good one. "I don’t see much sense in that,” said Rabbit. “No,” said Pooh humbly, “there isn’t. But there was going to be when I began it. It’s just that something happened to it along the way.”

Since "something happens along the way" every time we sit down to write a book, I thought Pooh had it right again. (He's kinda like Nora that way.)

  3. My favorite is still my mom's "Snap out of it!" It's where I go whenever I just can't seem to...well, snap out of it. ;-)
