#WriterWednesday: Interview with Lynn Cahoon

Hiya, WordWrangler Readers! We're super excited to have cozy mystery and romance author Lynn Cahoon on the blog today. She's going to answer our questions first, but she's also sharing a little something from her newest Tourist Trap mystery, Killer Run. Welcome, Lynn!

Lynn: Thank you so much for having me over today!

Wrangler Liz: Welcome and let's get started. You're going to be running between appointments all day, with lots of hurry-up-and-wait time. You're going to read while you wait. What writer will keep you sane and entertained all day?

Lynn: Heather Graham and her Krew of Hunters. I love the bit of romance, mystery, and paranormal all rolled up into one. And it’s got a great cast of characters who I’ve fallen in love with.

Wrangler Nan: If you could interview anyone from your life living or dead, but not a celebrity, who would it be and why?

Lynn: My Dad. We lost him when I was just a baby and my oldest sister was 15. I’d love to talk to him about his hopes and dreams for his future that never came true as well as what he hoped for his family.

Wrangler Kristina: I'll bet he would be so proud of you, Lynn! Do you believe a writer should write every day?

Lynn: Definitely. I was given an opportunity to write daily (without a day job) at the beginning of the year. I goaled for 3000 words a day or 15000 a week. Most days, I hit it by noon. Being in your story regularly feeds the muse and keeps you immersed. What’s the saying, write fast, edit slow?

Wrangler Margie: Great advice! Was there a teacher or teachers who had a particularly strong influence on your life? Tell me about them.

Lynn: Mrs. Higgins was my home ec teacher in high school. Yes, back in the day, we actually had home economics. And we did learn cooking, sewing, home crafts (knitting, crochet, embroidery) but I also learned a lot about who I was and my strengths.

She was our teacher advisor for FHA (Future Homemakers of America) and here I learned a lot about leadership, managing a project, and career paths that didn’t just focus on being a nurse, teacher, or secretary (the three options my guidance counselor gave me.)

Thank you for being her today, Lynn! Now, readers, keep going - we've got a fab excerpt from Lynn's newest book!

Excerpt:

Modern wisdom says it takes twenty-one days to make a habit stick. Lack of exercise, eating too much, or even negative thinking are all habits can be corrected in less than a month. My problem is, I don’t seem to get past week one. Oh, my intentions are good. My heart’s in the right place, but then the proverbial “stuff” happens.
Like the current Business-To-Business meeting where I currently sat, eating my second slice of Sadie Michaels’ Black Forest Cheesecake, the newest selection from her bakery, Pies on the Fly. Each slice had enough calories to feed a small South American village for a week. However, Josh Thomas was off on a rant and the creamy chocolate dessert was the only thing keeping my mouth shut instead of pointing out the flaws in his reasoning. Today, the owner of Antiques By Thomas thought we should do something about the ocean smell that permeated our little tourist town. His idea was to have electronic air fresheners installed on each streetlight on Main Street.

Killer Run blurb:

Jill Gardner—owner of Coffee, Books, and More—has somehow been talked into sponsoring a 5k race along the beautiful California coast. The race is a fundraiser for the local preservation society—but not everyone is feeling so charitable…

The day of the race, everyone hits the ground running…until a local business owner stumbles over a very stationary body. The deceased is the vicious wife of the husband-and-wife team hired to promote the event—and the husband turns to Jill for help in clearing his name. But did he do it? Jill will have to be very careful, because this killer is ready to put her out of the running…forever!
