Postcards From the Road--Day 6 - Saugatuck

I'm actually starting this on the night of Day 5. We just got in from dinner at Phil's Bar and Grille, which was really, really good. Crowded enough we waited for a half hour or so and would have waited a lot longer if we hadn't met Maureen and Wilma in line and they invited us to join them and Keith and Chuck. What a great time it was. We talked about marketing, about St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Indiana, about growing up Italian and Catholic, and about Chuck's mother having eight kids in four pregnancies. (She had twins, triplets, and single births, although I don't remember the exact make-up of the family.) It made the evening fun and interesting. Maureen and Keith are up there, Chuck and Wilma are just to the left. Nice folks!

Today was a fun one--we were pretty much bums! We went to a gorgeous library in Saugatuck after breakfast. Had a discussion because it didn't open until 10:00 when my productivity day is half over. Did some shopping and found some fudge and ice cream (it's not there anymore, you know, since I found it). We've been writing and napping this afternoon, thinking about starting for home tomorrow and seeing the Men we most certainly miss.

Getting ready for dinner now. You'll hear from Nan when we get back. See you on Monday when we'll be back to our regular blogging schedule, including our newest Friday blogger, Ava Cuvay!

Yup, Nan here... and it was a lazy day. I took Liz on a tour of the places I went to when I stayed here in Saugatuck on my first big-girl trip back in 2007, then we wandered around the village until we'd acquired a decent number of steps on our Fitbits. The weather alternated between dark clouds and sunshine and it even misted a tiny bit here and there, but all in all, it was a lovely day.

We were slugs this afternoon, I wrote a little, Liz wrote a little, then we both read and dozed until supper--it was a real vacation type afternoon. But, we roused ourselves enough to go into town for a delicious supper on the water at Coral Gables, where we had a great meal and wonderful service. It was a little cool out on the deck, but the view was so spectacular, we really didn't mind. We ordered coffee and had on our sweatshirts, so it was all okay.

All in all, this has been a delightful trip--a chance to draw closer as friends and writers. I don't think we had a single moment when we were at a loss for good conversation and we covered just about every topic under the warm Michigan sun. But always, we came back 'round to story--writing, reading, and sharing stories. For now, that's it from Nan and Liz, but we've agreed that we'll do it again next year and we have the Chicago North RWA Spring Fling coming up in May, so stay tuned...there will be more Postcards From the Road in 2016!

  3. Have a safe trip home--or are you there already? Anyhoo--it's been so much fun reading about your journey. I saved the picture and put it on my phone as my locked background and it inspires me every time I see it to get back to Analise and Danny's stories :) Thank you for that.
