When all else fails...

by Liz Flaherty

When you don't have anything to say on blogging day, it's book report time. Well, not actually report, but time to talk about what we're reading.

1. Kristan Higgins IF YOU ONLY KNEW. This one is more women's fiction than romance and...well, it's Kristan Higgins. In truth, I missed the romance, but only because Kristan's romances are pretty close to my favorites of all time. This book is superb.

2. Susanne Woods Fisher THE CHOICE. I love Amish romance, although I
think--if this makes sense--there's so much of it now that it's hard to choose. Ms. Fisher never fails, though. Her people are more in depth than many, I think. The culture and the faith are still there, but there are more questions. More failings. This book is the first of the Lancaster County Series.

3. Jana Richards ONE MORE SECOND CHANCE. Jana's great at giving characters layers, which makes me want to read more about them. The protagonists are a high school principal and a doctor who's paying off his college loans by working in small town Lobster Cove, Maine. They were ordinary people...except for those layers. I enjoyed them thoroughly.

What about you? What do you recommend? Or not?

Have a great week.

  1. they sound like great reads, Liz!

I'm reading A Cowboy's Redemption by Marin Thomas (very layered characters + the hero has just been released from prison) and I love it.

I just finished Nora Roberts' The Liar and (as always) she kept me on my toes...I like the way she weaves romance and suspense so that both are key to the story - like the book wouldn't be complete without the romance *and* the suspense.

And I just started reading Nicole Flockton's Freemasons series - loving it so far! I'm fascinated by Freemasonry, so that is part of it, but I like the way she creates her characters.. Very fun story!

    1. I haveen't read The Liar. I'm kind of over suspense, but I could use a Nora fix, so may do that. Speaking of cowboys, have you read Laura Drake? She's wonderful.

  2. I loved Kristan's new book, too. And I just saw she has a new Blue Heron novel coming out in November. Merry Christmas to me ;)

I just finished Juliet Blackwell's The Paris Key. I'd never read her before but loved that book. Of course, it took place in Paris..pretty much a done deal from there :)

I am now reading Second Chance Friends by Jennifer Scott and The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick.

  3. I'm reading The Girl on the Train because it went on sale for 1.99. Generally, I give the NYT bestseller a pass until prices go down, but this one has gotten amazing reviews. So far, I'm undecided--it's weird like Gone Girl was weird and I'm not sure how I feel about that, but I'm committed now... Kristin's new book is my Michigan book. Otherwise, I'm open too.
