Last year I was determined.
The year before I was magical---which I stole from Liz. She was the one who introduced me to the idea of picking a word to inspire your year. She seems to have lifted the practice from author Holly Jacobs.
If I could change anything about myself, it would be to stop being a procrastinator. I have tried. Honestly.
But, I always tend to fall back into old patterns.
I know I'm not going to change overnight, but maybe just one decision at a time. So, my word for the year is NOW.
Do things NOW. Write NOW. The time is NOW.
When I'm at work, I'm in the Now. You have to be when you work in retail. Maybe that's why--no. See, I'm already making excuses for being a procrastinator. I can't blame work. I was a world-class procrastinator before I ever started working.
I can go back to fifth grade when I didn't study my state capitals because I chose to read a book instead. Thank God for Debra Richardson, my grade school bff, who slipped me a few answers.
And in junior high, we had a ditty that we sang that went something like, "I work best under pressure and they'll be lots of pressure if I wait until tomorrow."
Too bad I embraced that philosophy to get me through the next forty-some years of my life.
So, this year I'm going to focus on being in the NOW. Doing it NOW. Living NOW. Writing NOW.

Good one, Margie!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Liz!
ReplyDeleteLove it, Margie! And I need a little 'now', too. Procrastination is a huge weakness for me!
ReplyDeleteAt this point, I consider it an art form. LOL
DeleteGood motivation, Margie! I think my word would be YESTERDAY. The boss wants the report YESTERDAY. The dishes should have been washed YESTERDAY. The kiddos want dinner YESTERDAY... Lol!
ReplyDeleteThat's the story of my life. But YESTERDAY is probably being generous. Last week is more like it.
DeleteExcellent word. Mine is move.
ReplyDeleteRobena, that's a good one and like Kristi's word, focus, can apply to so many aspects of our lives.
DeleteMargie, Now is an excellent word! I hope it influences your entire year!!
ReplyDeleteHolly--thank you so much for stopping by. And more thanks for being such a great inspiration. I love your moments of Glee and I love this concept of choosing a word to enact a change of attitude.
DeleteNow is a great word! From one world-class procrastinator to another, I wish you well!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm going to need it :-)
DeleteGreat word choice! I started choosing a word for my year after reading Thursdays at Eight by Debbie Macomber. I do think it helps! Good luck and I hope NOW works for you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, HiDee! I'll have to check out that book.
DeleteThat makes a lot more sense than my word of the year, which is "chocolate".
ReplyDeleteChocolate is a life word. Not a year one :)
