Day Two--"Taste" of Michigan

Congratulations to Kim Hanson--she wins an autographed copy of Protecting the Quarterback and some swag from Wrangler Kristina Knight's giveaway last week. Drop Kristi an email so she knows where to send your prize.

Hi, everybody. A fun day! We got up, wrote some, ate some, sat at the table and said we should move some. Sat there a while longer. Moved some. Finally we got dressed and combed and went downtown. We went from shop to shop, enjoying the beautiful weather and the friendliness of South Haven. In one shop, we heard a sales associate recommending a place to eat called Taste. Sounded good to us, we agreed. We made our purchases and went on, moving down to the harbor to go up stairs and down stairs and along boardwalks.

In one shop, I was looking at some shirts (and gasping--that sucker was $62) when I heard Nan speaking from across the shop. I went around the corner and there she was talking to a couple she goes to church with in Indianapolis. The world shrunk up there for a while!

After talking to her friends and not buying a $62 shirt, we went back to the boardwalk and voila, there was Warner Vineyards Tasting Room. Should we? we asked each other, knowing full well what that particular answer was going to be.

Oh, yum, it was so good. Nan and Kristen, the server, had a high old time talking about sweet, dry, red, merlot, sugar, Chambourcin grapes, and Indiana wineries vs. Michigan wineries vs. California wineries. I just sipped the different offerings (at first--toward the end I was probably more like snorting them), and thought this might be the first time in my whole life that I was a little toasted before lunch.

After the wine-tasting experience, we walked to Taste for lunch. I have no words left to describe it. Besides, I might have a little bit of a wine head.... Take it away, Nan.

So, I am taking it away, but just quite a bit later! It's 10:20 pm on Tuesday night and we just got back from the movies--saw Florence Foster Jenkins a the local theater. Great film, fun little movie house. Everyone did a fabulous job, but no surprise there because, you know, Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant . . .and surprisingly, Simon Helberg (Wolowitz on the Big Bang Theory), who did an amazing job as Jenkins's long-suffering pianist.  Plus, he did all his own piano work--the guy is gifted!

But now food--yeah, we've turned into major foodies (which sounds nicer than big eaters, don't you think?). Lunch was at Taste--a tapas and martini place on the main drag. Amazing food! We shared small plates of tilapia tacos, scallops scampi, parmesan bread, some great carrot/cabbage salad, and of course french fries. It was all delicious! By the time lunch was done, our wine buzzes had worn off and we stopped in for dessert to go at Kilwin's, then headed home with a quick run by the market for a couple of things we forgot last night.

Home again, it was 91 degrees and humid, and both of us were sleepy from wine and food, so we settled in the living room with our Kindles and seriously considered naps. However, we talked so much, we never snoozed, which seems to happen to us fairly frequently--like every time we're together. We really do work a lot too, but conversations start and no matter what the subject, we cover it from every possible angle.

After the movie, we debated eating in or eating out, but eating in our own cottage won out. We made guacamole, salads, chips, and salsa to go with the sangria we'd gotten at Warner. It was the perfect supper, topped off by the dessert we got at Kilwin's. So now, I'm going to teach Liz how to Farkle because going to bed super-early again is just not right . . .

    1. Me to, me too! You always seem like you're having a blast. And since I don't drink wine, I could be your DD. LOL Or Nan would make it a mission to turn me onto wine. Either way, win-win.

  3. I am envious of all the fun you two had. To agree with Kristina, maybe your prize should be a chance to be part of the next Liz and Nan trip. Just remember in the immortal words of Jimmy Buffett "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" (Nan, no song lyrics just the title)

    2. You're a good girl, Carolyn, to use only the title and no lyrics--nice! And yes, it is five o'clock somewhere, but not here yet. We'll save the margs for after we get home from supper. ;-)
