Football, Pumpkin Spice, and Heaven

I'm going to let you guys in on a little secret: where the seasons are concerned I'm a bit of a flake. I know, you're absolutely shocked that Kristina could be a flake about anything; let me tell you, I was just as shocked to discover this as you.

You see, I always thought winter was my favorite (because, hello! snow!), but then I can't discount spring because - new flowers and all the pretty colors...but there is something about a 90 degree day spent in the pool that is just heavenly...and then, when the calendar switches around again and the leaves start to fall from the trees and that crispness hits the air for the first time in months... So, it turns out I'm a bit of a season flake. I like them all, and at least once each year each one of them is my absolute favorite.

The thing is, though, that there are certain things about each season that are always my favorite, not matter what. In winter it is that first snow fall and the first mug of cocoa on a cold night. In the spring, it's looking at my flower garden when the first planting is done. Summer means I'm waiting - anxiously! - for that first string of 90+ degree days so I can cool off in the pool (around day 5 of 90+ I get tired of it)...and in the autumn...well, here we go!

My first favorite thing about fall is in the picture in the top left corner - the changing colors, the crunchy leaves I walk through, the chill in the air early in the morning. I grew up in south-central Missouri where fall..isn't. Growing up the weather would go from Indian Summer days of 80+ temperatures into the temperature basement of 35 and below. No happy medium. The leaves would fall, of course, but very rarely did we get the range of colors that I get now that my family has moved to Northern Ohio.

My second favorite thing is football - college, professional, or high school...I love everything about football from the loud crowds to the smell of a freshly painted field to the halftime bands...

And a fall-favorites list wouldn't be complete without a quick mention of pumpkin spice - although I'll admit, I don't like to drink or eat pumpkin spice anything. I like to smell it, and so I'm going to hit up Yankee Candle in a couple of days to stock up on jar candles and wax melts and maybe even some fragrance beads....

So, readers, what is your favorite thing about fall?

  1. I think Margie was the one who said she loved every season at its beginning, and I do, too, but there is something so special about spring and fall. I actually eat and drink (and even bake) pumpkin spice stuff, but I'm not sure I would if it didn't smell so good.

  2. School supplies on sale! I loved going to school and can relive those days buying new pens, glue and notebooks. I am a Seahawks gal, plus I have grandsons who play football and a husband who is a former college player. The blast of the whistle is game on!

  3. I went on a pumkin spice shopping bender just the other day. With thoughts of Nan in my head, I giggled and purchased nearly every pumpkin spice cereal, treat, and baked good in the store!

  5. Ummmm...so it's pumpkin spice time again, eh girlies? Can I just state for the record that I adore all things fall, except the pumpkin spice thing. Just can't dig it. However, that said, Husband makes the most amazing pumpkin pie that is sugar- and lactose-free and I love it, so go figure. I'm a September baby, so fall is my season, but I also love summers on the lake, winters snuggled up with Husband by the fire, and spring for flowers and new life...

  6. There's definitely the feel of autumn in air in my neck of the woods. It was chil-l-l-ly this morning, just a few degrees above freezing. But it's turned out to be a lovely afternoon, fortunately. Good thing because I'm not ready for winter yet!

I love the smell of pumpkin spice and I love pumpkin pie. A couple of my favorites, for sure.

  7. Not a fan of fall. I grew up in Southern California (near the beach) and only remember wet and dry seasons! :) Ohio is a lot different, that's for sure. So I guess I like that inbetween stage of Spring/Summer and Summer/Fall. Nice days, but not so humid.

    1. we are SO ready for the humidity to break - even this morning (with temps around 70) there was still a bit of a humid bite to the air. Hoping this rain washes it away! thanks for visiting, Stacy!
