My Listy Things

Continuing the week’s theme of Listy Things, I’ve pulled from what the other gals have covered and picked my favorites. Fair warning: I learned through this exercise that I can’t answer even the simplest question simply. It usually involves a small doctoral thesis.

Favorite color? Depends on if I’m wearing it, decorating with it, or looking at it. I love all the colors.

Favorite pizza toppings? No anchovies, please. Otherwise, I’m fairly adventurous with my pizza and like a variety of toppings, vegetables, and sauces. Imagine my frustration living with people whose preferences are limited to cheese, sausage, and mushrooms.

What’s one of your biggest pet peeves? People not waiting “their turn”… either in line at the story, driving, etc. Though I recently realized I also get perturbed when people don’t understand that I’m always right and they should change their opinions to mirror mine. So rude… ;-)

What’s one of your nervous habits? I long ago cured myself of chewing on my nails. But instead, I pick and chew at the skin around them. I know… gross. I've gotten better about it (maybe I'm less nervous these days?), but my poor cuticles have taken a beating over the years.

What was your first stuffed animal & its name? A pink kitty named Sergeant. Don’t ask why the name… that was a couple lifetimes ago and it was already a threadbare mess in the few memories I have.

What’s the drink you always order at Starbucks? Brace yourselves: I don’t do Starbucks. I never voluntarily go there. If I’m meeting someone there, it takes me ten minutes to order and I usually order dessert-in-a-venti-cup and only drink half.

What’s the lifestyle rule you preach, but never actually practice? “Moderation in all things.” It’s a difficult mantra to claim when I’m frying up 3-pounds of savory bacon. Or eating chocolate. Or drinking champagne. Or spending time with friends…

Favorite destination you haven't gone to yet? There are so many. The Champagne region of France, so I can again break my lifestyle rule. I’d love to visit Scotland again (as an adult) to immerse myself in their whisky making and culture. I want to bury my hands in a peat bog, fill my nose with the aromas of malted barley and aging whisky, see all those kilted legs, and enjoy multiple eargasms from their lilting brogue. So much for moderation…

Favorite non-romantic line from a movie that you use in a romantic way? It’s obscure. Said by the robot bartender at the airport in the movie “The Fifth Element.” He turns to the priest and says in his monotone robot voice, “Yooouuu want some more?” Leave a comment below with your favorite non-romantic romantic line, and I’ll draw a name for a free copy of “Love and the Corps!”

Favorite piece of jewelry? I have a ring for each of the kiddos with their birthday stones. I’ve had these fused into one and wear it on my right hand nearly every day. If my fingers were longer, I’d wear it next to my wedding rings.

Favorite hobby? Writing. I know, it’s more than a hobby, but it’s also not a career yet. So, when I’m not working my day job, raising my kiddos, or spending time with my hubby, I’m writing.

Everyone have an Awesome Labor Day Weekend!!!

  1. "Of course I'm beautiful. I'm a princess." - Amy Farrah Fowler in Big Bang Theory. Not my favorite line, maybe, but right up there in the top 10. Love your list, Ava!

  2. What a nifty list, Ava! Love it! Favorite line: "I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way." from Who Framed Roger Rabbit--not my absolute fave, but I love it!! Fave: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." from the Princess Bride.

    1. Inconceivable! We love Roger Rabbit... and his uncle with probate problems who had to take big pills and drink lots of water ;-) Great movies, Nan!

  3. The Princess Bride's "Have fun storming the castle!" is how we say goodbye when one leaves the house. To anyone being overly dramatic we say, "Lighten up, Frances." From Stripes.

    Fun post, Ava.

  4. what a fun line! I don't think I've ever watched The Fifth Element (I know, I know, I'm deprived!)...My favorite line is one we use all the time in our house. It's 'Joe-Boo needs a refill' from Major League, and we say it in *horrible* southern accents for just about everything food or drink related... There are also a LOT (like, a lot a lot) of Princess Bride quotes we use around here...

    1. Because Princess Bride is the best! Also my go to swear expression is "Mother fuss bucket!" from Ghostbusters.

    2. Love it! I have to confess we quote a lot of Blazing Saddles and sci-fi at our house... not much of which can be printed ;-)
