And what would YOU like for Christmas?

The holidays are coming so fast! It's okay with me--I love the whole last two months of the year--but it's all so busy and I never get everything done I intended. Gift-giving's gotten remarkably easy. We and our kids are all at stages that if we need something, we go get it. The grands all love gift cards. (And so do we.) There's just not that much to it.

Except some people who never quite grow up love packages under the tree. All the better if they're wrapped instead of gift-bagged. The girls in my family and I are all like this. We don't complain about gift cards or gift bags, but there is something so personal about a wrapped present.

Since it's hard to know what to get people who don't have need or don't play with toys, I thought I'd make a list of things I like getting, some of which I would never think of as gifts but would make perfect ones. Please comment and tell us what you like, too.

  1. Thumb drives.
  2. Dish towels.
  3. Socks.
  4. Lotions and foaming soap from Bath and Body Works
  5. Tea bags--all kinds but must be caffeinated.
  6. Ornaments--got a real fondness for Santas and snowmen.
  7. Stapler--I only put this in here because I need a new one and am too cheap to buy a cool one.
  8. Clear Solo cups, because I don't like red and blue ones.
  9. Padded mailers--I use them all year long.
  10. A book of stamps.
And that's about all I can think of. How about you? What would you like to have?

Since I'm here and since it's all been so exciting, in case you haven't ordered these yet, please do!

Have a great week!

  1. I want a pony! 😄
But your list is a great idea, Liz. I would only add candles (the Yankee kind) to it.

    1. Oh, good one. I should add wax tarts to mine. They keep my office from smelling like--whatever uncleaned offices smell like. :-)

  2. I want the Rocketbook Wave and a solid night sleep.
    :)

    1. Oh, man--I'm there with you on the sleep, and I don't even have a toddler!

  3. Man, that Rocketbook Wave thing looks very cool! I'm with you on that list, Liz, plus I was thinking pens--like cool gel pens that write really smooth, gardening gloves, and M&Ms carsmels which are coming out soon.

    1. Oh, I want the M & Ms coffee! And I'm going to try to withdraw from pens--I have too many as it is and I love them all. :-)

  4. I play with toys! It's just that my toys are wooden knitting needles and wool yarn, or notebooks and colored pens. Also, Amazon gift cards are always good, so I can buy more e-books.

    1. Oh, yes. And I could do with serger thread, sewing machine needles, and kid-friendly fabric, too. The list keeps growing! :-)

  5. BOOKS! All sorts - true crime, romance, mystery, biographies...books are always on my list.

    Ghirardelli caramels (because YUM)
A punch for my planner (it's kind of like a 3-hole-punch, but for ARC-based calendars)
    Stickers for my planner
The wax thingies for my electric candle thingie (the names of things stymie me this morning)

    1. Yes...I call them tarts, but they're the same thing as I use. Scentsy are my favorite, and ones my friend Rhonda makes. Oh, Lord, anything Ghirardelli...

  6. My dad got me the coolest gift nearly ten years ago....a box of printer paper (ten reams??). Lasted me several years, because soon afterward, my then-toddler broke my printer! Just used the last of it this past summer. Last year, he got me a 2TB external storage drive, so looking forward to what's coming this year:) I also agree; candles and candy never go out of style....;) Liz, if you come to the Toy and Hobby show at the fairgrounds Nov 9-13th, I've got that stapler for you....I ended up with 2:)

    1. I used to use a box of paper a year, but with everything electronic now, I buy a ream and it lasts forever. But what a great gift that was! Which fairgrounds, Mollie?

    2. Indiana State Fairgrounds....38th and Fall Creek/Binford Blvd/whatever-the-hell-it's-called-now in Indianapolis. Show runs 10-9 W-Th, 10-10 F-Sa (I THINK!), 10-5 Su.

  7. No no no, it's way too early to be thinking of Christmas/Hanukah/Kwanza gifts. I'm feeling very curmudgeon like. I was watching TV yesterday and saw a holiday gift commercial!! I was horrified!! Poor Hallowe'en is being overshadowed!! Why can't we enjoy the autumn, the colourful leaves, the warm apple cider doughnuts? By the way, yum on those doughnuts.

    1. Oh, I'm loving fall, but it all connects for me. Without kids around, and back a lane where we don't have trick-or-treaters, I don't even think much asbout Halloween, but I enjoy the whole season. And, yes, I don't mind if I do have a few of those doughnuts!

  8. Liz, I've told everyone in my family that this year I only want things I can use as I seem to accumulate "stuff" that sits around needing to be dusted or watered and if I forget to water they die. So I like the items you have on your list. Thanks for making it.

    1. I'm like you--no more "stuff." Especially since I get so attached to things it's hard when it comes to downsizing.

    2. If you'll permit me a 'fan girl' moment....Roz, I absolutely LOVED Anything You Can Do!!!!! I was checking to see if Liz had responded to my above comment yet when I saw your name and thought 'I know that name...':)

  9. Liz, I love your list. Yes, I really don't need "stuff" except I do love framed photos of my grandson. I would like to have a telescope (of course I would also need a great deck from which to view the stars!)

    1. My son and his family brought their telescope to our house last year and we were out here in the yard in the middle of the night looking at...I think it was Saturn and her lovely rings. I know zilch about astronomy, but I was completely enthralled. I can't imagine a lovelier gift.

  10. Liz, I'm laughing at the stapler on your list. I told my husband a few days ago that the only thing I want for Christmas is a pencil sharpener. A "real" one, the old-fashioned kind that you crank around that actually works and doesn't just eat my pencils!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh, great present! I have an electric one that works well, but the truth is I hardly ever use pencils anymore. (Which probably explains the embarrassing number of pens I have.)

      Delete
    2. Carol--my grandfather had one of those in his garage and I'd run down--we lived next door--to sharpen my pencils when doing homework. I was just thinking the other day, why didn't I take that after we sold his home??? It was old in the 70's, but worked wonders.

  11. Um, I still like toys for Xmas. :) Mom and I each choose a Lego set to put together on Xmas day so...LOL

    1. I like Legos, too, and so do some of the other Wranglers. One of my favorite things is a Lego cheerleader Margie sent me one year. Right now, there are Lego figures all over our library that have been put together by patrons. It's cool!

      Delete
    2. I love that, Anna! I usually get a new Lego set every Christmas from my husband just because he knows how much I love them. And the winter is when I usually find time to do them :)

And Liz, I'm like those who are not named on your list, that like presents under the tree. And I love finding just the right presents for the people in my life.

My sister and I exchange hermit crabs or just crabs figures, magnets, etc--and not because we're crabby--but because they remind of us of the time we brought like 50 hermit crabs home from the beach in a shoe box. I don't even think our parents knew until we got home. LOL And if you're not prepared for hermit crabs, like have a bowl or something, they don't survive in a shoe box. Just saying..

  12. I didn't know what a Rocketbook Wave was so I had to Google it. Now I want one of those, too! It would have been great for taking notes at the conference I was just at this past weekend. Or maybe not, since my notes and handwriting are kind of a mess. But it's just so cool I want one!

Aside from many of the wonderful small items mentioned (except the stapler; I've got two) I could really use a smart phone. All I've got is a flip phone and it's impossible to text on the thing. I really missed having a phone with that kind of capability this weekend.

    1. Oh, I love my smart phone! I haven't looked up the Rocketbook Wave because I don't want to want anything else. :-)

  13. I just checked out the Rocketbook and it is definitely going on my wishlist. Especially because I write all my first drafts by hand anyway. Thank you, Peggy, for the heads up!
