Looking for something to read? Just puttin' this out here for consideration ;-) |
I have a confession to make--one I think I have made before, but it bears repeating: I'm a horrible reader. Shame shame shame on me, I know. It's a lame excuse, but any spare time I have for reading is spent either writing my own books or helping critique the writing of fellow peeps. When I do choose to read, I prefer to read the works of my friends. I love supporting them, and I have many of their books on my Kindle for when I make time to read.
Which brings me back to my lame excuses for not reading.
Because of this, I'm not going to commit to reading 50 books. I'm not even going to pretend I could read half that many. However, I have committed to judging the RITAs this year. I'm waiting with bated breath for my shipment to arrive any day. I'm excited about this, knowing I'm going to get a mystery selection of books I might not otherwise choose to read. And I'm a littler nervous, wondering if I can get all the books read by the deadline.
It's going to force me to be a reader again. Not a writer. Not a writer reading to help another writer improve. Not a writer trying to be a reader but still too caught up in writing to enjoy it. Nope, I'm going to be a reader. And it's going to be awesome!
I gotta say, I'm four and a half into my 50 and I'm enjoying it immensely! Good luck, and enjoy your RITA books.
ReplyDeleteWow! that's awesome! Keep up the great work!
DeleteI struggle with making the time to read. Oh, I buy books ...lots and lots of them, but I have to horse whip my time to sit and enjoy a great book. What's with that?
ReplyDeleteI think we sometimes put "reading" in a luxury category, like pedicures and facials. When the "must do" list is too long, it eats into the luxury time. Like we're being selfish or something by wanting to do nothing more than read. Sigh.... I feel your pain!
Deleteyay for another 50-book-er! ;D
ReplyDeleteHaha! Hopefully I won't have THAT many RITA entries to read!! ;-)
DeleteI'm 4 books into my 50 and it's lovely! Husband and I sat on the sofa and read last night instead of turning on the TV--I really had a nice, peaceful time. Enjoy your RITA judging!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's great! I'm so glad you're getting some much-needed downtime!
DeleteAva, unfortunately I will break the theme of reading on Saturday. I have to confess I don't read nearly as much as I'd like to. I have some of the same problems as you; the spare time I have is spent writing. But that's an excuse. I know if I turned off the TV like Nan did, I'd probably read a lot more. I haven't formerly committed to the 50 books either, but I am committed to reading this year, and committed to keeping track. Good luck with your Rita entries!
ReplyDeleteJana - Best iof luck with reading, and I'm the last person to judge someone else for watching TV instead of... anything! :-)
