I Could Use A Love Song ~ @AuthorKristina Knight

I love love songs. Give me a slow ballad or a happy little ditty and I'm dancing and singing and the world around me seems a little brighter. I'm not looking for the most recent, some of my favorite love songs were popular before I was born.

Like Elvis' Can't Help Falling In Love. My love for this song has everything to do with the movie - the moment with Elvis' character in "Blue Hawaii" sings this song to his grandmother? It gets me every time. It probably also helps that one of my favorite bands (UB40) covered it with a reggae beat in the 1990s...

Then there is Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight. There is something so...longing in the guitar riff that starts the song. And Eric's voice is a little lonely, but not melancholy. It's like he's just waiting...and who can't identify with waiting for something...beautiful?

Or the happy little Caught Up In You by .38 Special. It captures perfect that first blush of infatuation, don't you think? That moment when you want to call or text or drop in just to say hello...those moments when you can't stop thinking about that person - and you know there are more important things than the feel of his arm around your shoulders or the scent of his cologne...but in that moment, you can't think of a single more important thing.

And the mournful Till You Come Back to Me Again by Garth Brooks. Who can't identify with love that's a little bit lost, but that we just can't give up on?

These are a few of my favorite love songs, and several of them have made their way onto playlists for my books...do you have a favorite love song?

  1. I love Wonderful Tonight! I have a special spot for 12th of Never and Save the Last Dance for Me (because it has such a wonderful story to it.) Great list, Kristi!

  2. "Little Nikki" by Prince. Just teasing! I'm not a love song gal because they tend to be too slow... but I've been listening to more country these days, which is rife with love songs.

  3. The one that gets me every time is Lady In Red. The other day Mike had on Working Girl and I waited to get my shower so I could hear that song. LOL

I also love Bon Jovi's Make A Memory and Dan Fogelberg's Old Lang Syne. I could just have a thing about reunion songs. LOL

Right now, I'm loving Train's Play That Song because it makes me happy. And Charlie Puth's Let's Marvin Gaye for the same reason.

  4. Terrific list and how fun to see everyone else's! I think my favorite love songs are the old standards--Cole Porter Every Time We Say Goodbye and Hoagie Carmichael's The Nearness of You...anything from that era. And yes, a million times yes to Can't Help Falling In Love!

  5. Oh, so many. Of course I love "Can't Help Falling in Love". For newer stuff, there's "All of Me" by John Legend, and "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran. An oldy but goody is "Something" by the Beatles. And because I listen to a lot of country music, how about "Still the One" by Shania Twain, "God Gave me You" by Blake Shelton and "Making Memories of Us" by Keith Urban. Thanks for making me think of all these great songs, Kristina!
