Morning Musings

by Margie Senechal

Have you noticed time is slowing down?

Usually when April gets here, I'm all, "It's April already? Where did the time go?"

Now, I look at the news and I wonder how it's only been three months since the inauguration. How is that possible? It feels like it's been years.

That, along with the Biden/Obama memes, could be--in my own humble opinion--the only upsides to the current administration.

Can you tell I have nothing yet?

Thank you Nan for the shout-out on Tuesday. It's been as much fun for me as it has been for you.

Yesterday, KB and I stalked a Ryan Gosling lookalike in the grocery store. Okay, maybe stalking is too strong of term. She asked me if I noticed the guy in the black sweatshirt and gray sweat pants and how he looked liked Ryan. Well, that I had to see and we found him in the meat market--coincidence?? And he did look like he could be Ryan's doppelganger. And he was nice as well, pointing out a garbage can after we all sampled crab cakes.

I decluttered my kitchen today. I'm tired of all the clutter--seriously. So, I'm trying to do it small stages. And my kitchen is the smallest stage in the house. Plus, it's been invaded by little sugar ants. Which while harmless, are a pain in the backside. And they seem to be everywhere these days. I've heard when it rains a lot--and it's rained A LOT, two record-breaking months in a row, the Columbia River is over flood stage--it drives the ants inside. I'm not sure if that's true, but it sure feels true.

So, today, I turned my microwave stand which was basically a mail dump station--into a baking stand and moved my Keurig to where the Kitchen Aide mixer had been, thus freeing up an entire counter. I bought some mug hooks and hung up my coffee cups and found a wine rack to store those plastic cups with lids and straws. I must admit to feeling rather accomplished now that I can see my pink counter tops again.

Hopefully, this new declutter thing will last until I get a good run through the house. Normally, I'd put the timeline on this at about two years, but with the new time drag, I could be done by the end of summer!

As I tell my girls, "It's all in how you look at it."

Happy Thursday!

  1. We get the sugar ants, too. Every spring. Hate it, but they keep the kitties entertained:-)

    1. LOL Our cats refuse to eat if they see an ant anywhere near their food. As does the dog, so JV goes through the kibbble before putting it down for Moxie.

  2. Fun post. I did clean my kitchen island off the other day, but I noticed this morning that the top has once again disappeared. Sigh.

    1. It certainly doesn't take long, does it? That's what I'm afraid of.

    1. Thanks! When I cleaned out the secretary I found an envelope of pictures and info from my dad's side of the family that I didn't know I had. I can't wait to really go through it. That's the plus side to organizing.

  4. We've been cleaning and purging for the past couple of weeks--not sure why. Husband made the comment that if we toss any more stuff, the house will rise up off the foundation...I'm thinking that would be fun! ;-) I love your stream of consciousness posts, Margie. My stream is not nearly so entertaining!

    1. I wish I could get down to that level but never going to happen--I'd be happy to get more than a measly path through the garage.

  5. I'm not very good at keeping my decluttered areas decluttered. My office is a case in point; five minutes after I organize, it looks messy again. I hope you have better luck.
