My New Kitchen!

My head space is filled with my kitchen renovations right now, so I thought I'd share some pictures. It's definitely coming along!

The cabinets begin to go in. Obviously that big hole is for the fridge.

Let there be doors!

My dog Lou is confused by all the commotion, not to mention the boxes!

I love this new buffet area with glass shelves and lighting inside the cabinet. That's a wine rack on the side.

New appliances came today! Too bad they're in the living room right now.

The cabinets are the fastest things to go up. The finishing touches will take much longer. It's going to be a little while until the new flooring and the quartz countertop go in. We haven't even looked for tile for the backsplash yet. And we can't install either the sink or the dishwasher until the quartz is in, which could be weeks! Yikes! We're going to be using our makeshift kitchen downstairs in the laundry room for some time to come.

I'm a little surprised (though I probably shouldn't be) by how stressful I'm finding everything. I have to confess that when our designer tried to blow off a meeting last week, I lost it. I sent her a very sternly worded email pointing out that no, our meeting was not "tentative"; my husband and I rearranged schedules to be able to make the meeting that was to start the whole reno process. Afterward, I felt a little embarrassed because I'm usually a pretty reasonable person, though I still think she was being unprofessional.

Perhaps it's a good thing I'm getting out of Dodge. I'd arranged to go to a writing retreat in another province before I realized our kitchen reno was going to happen at this time. I'm counting on my husband to handle things while I'm gone, and I know he can. But the control freak in me worries something will go wrong without me...

Anyway, I will be away writing madly next week, so I won't be with you on April 8. Have a wonderful start to April and I'll see you soon!

I've often heard that moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do, but now I think kitchen renos are just as bad. What is the most stressful thing you've ever done?

  1. It will be lovely! However, been there, done that, and never want to go there again. :-)

  4. Just did this about 4 years ago--not all new kitchen, but a big reno in our whole downstairs. Totally worth it--I still love my kitchen! You can do this--the writers retreat will help a lot! Have fun!
