This is what happens when I'm off for an extra day...I'm late.
I have bunco at my house tonight and I've been working on getting my patio presentable because it's bigger than my living room and dining room combined.
And I still have cooking and baking to do. And making some raspberry peach lemonade. Mmmmm. Hope that turns out as good as it looks on Pinterest.
Remember at the beginning of the month and we did our check-ins? I had about 18 books read at that time. Well, in the last couple of weeks I have been on a reading spree and I have found that I am enjoying reading physical books again. Did I already tell you that? Mmm. I don't know. But, in the past two weeks I've read like eight books. I've reached my half-way to fifty goal.
Anyway, I thought I'd give you a couple of suggestions of good reads that I've come across.
I read Close Enough to Touch on the recommendation of my sister and it was so good. It's about a woman who has an allergy to the human touch and has turned herself into a hermit supported by her mother's well-to-do husband. When her mother dies, Jubilee is forced out of her cocoon and into the real world where she finds herself and maybe even love.
I found Mystic Summer at Barnes and Noble. I picked it up because of the title--Mystic Pizza, anyone?--and the cover. I bought it because of the last paragraph of chapter two. And I finished it within a day and a half.
I love a good beach read and Mystic Summer delivers. And oh my, how I want to visit Mystic, Connecticut. I fell in love with the town via Hannah McKinnon's descriptions. Someday...
Today I am reading--in between physical therapy this morning, last minute shopping, baking brownies, making lemonade and chicken enchiladas, and cleaning off the patio--The Peculiar Miracles of Antoinette Martin. I heard about this book from the FB group, Great Thoughts, Great Readers, and it's on sale for Kindle right now ($1.99). I recommend, after reading less than six chapters, that you stop reading this right now and go get it. Go on, I'll wait. I can finish chapter six while you're gone....
Back? Okay. This books falls in my favorite Magical/Mystical realism. It has flower lore, a girl who can cure, and check out that cover. Seriously, it's a beautiful story and I can't wait to get back to it.
You know, after I put some brownies in the oven..and whip up the cookie dough frosting. What you've never heard of cookie dough frosting?
Here's a picture (Via Iambaker.net) on a cupcake, but I thought it would taste devine on a brownie.
So, there you go. Something checked off my to-do-list. Have a great Thursday and let me know if you have any book recommendations. I might have some time post Antoinette.
