Bye-bye, Summer ~ @AuthorKristina Knight

Summer is drawing to an end, and I'm not ready for it. I know, I know, the calendar doesn't officially flip over to fall until September 22, but that doesn't matter. School starts tomorrow for bebe and that means the summer is over. O.V.E.R.

And I'm not quite sure where it went.

It seems as if today should be June 23rd, that we should just have celebrated bebe's birthday, rather than August 23rd...like we should be stocking up on firecrackers and readying the backyard for a weenie roast instead of contemplating just how long we can keep the pool open ... and when we should get the hot tub prepped for winter evenings.

Don't get me wrong, it's been a great summer. bebe competed in her second summer swim program and did well for her age. We hit Disney (and LegoLand) pretty hard during the RWA conference. Made a trip back to Missouri to see the family. Played all the way through the Lego City Undercover game (we each made a profile, and we played together in the afternoons). Spent a lot of time in the pool. Watched the eclipse through the cloud cover.

I have the memories of a summer well-spent, but still I'm not quite ready to let it go. The heat, yes. The time, no.

Because she's 9 this year. At some point in the not-so-distant future, she's going to spend her summer days with her friends, at a summer job...or just in her room with the door closed because Parents Are Uncool.

And so, for the next twenty-four hours, I'm holding on to summer and the age of 9 and all the silliness that goes along with it. It's not quite 80 today, but I feel like it's a pool afternoon...and we may drag the icee pops out of the freezer...and maybe watch the lightning bugs when the sun starts to go down.

How are you holding on to summer?                                                                 ~Kristina

  1. She can't be nine... It has been a delicious summer, and the faster they go, the sweeter the memories. Spoken as a true old person!

  2. What Liz said--this summer has flown by, but we've had Grandboy with us a good bit and that's been different and fun. I can't believe September is just a week away either! Cherish your moments with Bebe--time just goes by quicker the older they (and we) get.

  3. I'm still wearing my flip-flops. Will probably do so until there's snow on the ground. Enjoy year nine!

  4. It has flown by which is weird because it seems like the president has been in office forever--or at least, way too long. I think we're in some sort of time-distorted political loop.

I--lover and misser of rain--am looking forward to fall. I'm tired of seeing dead stalks surround my patio. Okay, I know it's partially my fault for not watering diligently, but still....LOL

Enjoy all your moments with Bebe, they do grow so quickly.

  5. Time goes by so quickly. I remember when my girls were that age and now they're grown-ups. I'm chiming in late, so I hope you enjoyed the last 24 of your summer.
