My Defining Moment

Right off, we have a winner in the giveaway that I held on September 26, which was as you all recall, release day for Saving Sarah AND my birthday. I love giving gifts, don't you? The winner of the complete paperback set of the Women of Willow Bay series--all four books--is Carolyn McCutcheon. Carolyn, contact me at nan at nanreinhardt dot com to claim your prize! Woohoo!!

On to the topic of the day. We're doing a theme week here in the round pen and Liz started the ball rolling yesterday with the question: What was one defining moment in your career as a writer. Fun interesting question to consider and I've thought about it off and on all day as I've worked and played.

I think my most recent defining moment is indubitably when ONCE MORE FROM THE TOP made the #2 spot on the USA Today Indie Authors Best Sellers list last month--it's not a huge thing, but it felt like it gave me legitimacy as an author somehow. My sales numbers were high enough that I hit a list--I hit several last month actually, including the Amazon Top 100 Paid Best Sellers and the iBooks Top 100 Paid Best Sellers. I realize that selling enough books to make a list may not be what defines me as a writer, but it sure makes me feel like there's a chance the world might see me as a real author and that's kind of a defining moment.

In other news, SAVING SARAH is selling well and has gotten some nice reviews, which is always a good thing. I'm working a lot and writing on the new series--also good things.

Fall has officially arrived. We got to the lake and found our driveway covered with leaves, and when we went out on a boat ride this afternoon, the air smelled of burning leaves. The lake had yellow and red leaves floating on the surface and the gulls have made their annual fly-by here. I don't know where they come from since we're smack in the middle of the country and nowhere near an ocean. I think they might come from the Great Lakes, but wherever they hail from, we get a visit every fall from a flock of around fifty or so gulls. They pick a different boathouse roof to perch on each year, almost as if they're going down the line out on the main part of the lake, trying each roof to see which one suits them best. It always surprises us to see them here.

It's going to be a great week because I get to have lunch with Liz! It's been too long since our last one and man, I'm in Lizzie withdrawal! I have my list started, so I'm ready!

Hope you'll share a defining moment with us this week--we'd love to hear about yours, whether you are a writer or not. Defining moments happen in everyone's life. Tell us about yours and then go out and make it great Tuesday!

  1. You've had several defining moments lately! One of mine was 19 years ago this month, when Hilary Sares called from Kensington and said,"We'd like to buy your book."

  5. You should be soooo proud of your accomplishments, especially as an Indie author. Not easy, Nan Reinhardt, but on top of being just delightful, your series is so well written, and I often think talent will out. Congratulations on that #2 spot!!!! Big stuff.
