Bunny Slippers at the Bar and Other Writerly Moments

As you all know, Liz and I went to Madison a couple of weeks ago for our annual writing retreat and girly time. The hotel we ended up at was so delightful that we're determined to return to the Riverboat Inn in warmer weather so we can enjoy their sun porches and the pool. One thing we did enjoy immensely this trip was the lobby and the bar--we spent most of our three days camped out at a table in the lobby with our laptops. We both got a lot done--Liz wrote The End on the book that's due December first and I got in about 3K words on my first book for Tule Publishing, bringing my total to just over nine thousand words. Nice!

One cool thing the folks at the Riverboat do when you check in is give you a ticket for a free beverage at their bar, which is in the lobby and is just adorable. We stopped by for our freebie the first night we were there. As it happened, we were in our slippers--Liz's new fuzzy ones and my . . . well, my bunny slippers. If you haven't ever lived with a writer, just know that we appreciate silliness more than most, so the two of us sitting at a bar in our slippers while sipping adult beverages was just too much fun!

I got a lot of research in--the fun kind because the new series happens in a winery in southern Indiana, so of course, we had to hit several wineries. We tasted some amazing wine at The Ridge and at Ertel Winery, where we had a delicious lunch on Friday, and I came away with a bunch of great ideas.

Looks like it's giveaway week here at Word Wranglers, First be sure to head back to yesterday's post and comment for a chance at Liz's giveaway. Then in a comment to today's post, tell me the most ridiculous thing you've ever been caught wearing in public, either deliberately or by accident. Bunny slippers, anyone? I have some holiday goodies to send to one lucky commenter, along with a signed copy of Saving Sarah. This giveaway is open all week longm however only to readers in the continental US. So talk to me, mes amies, and maybe you'll win!

  1. I love bunny slippers and silly socks and, heck, fluffy jammies with penguins all over them. In fact, I'm wearing my fluffy penguin jammies right now...I may have even shoveled snow in them last year.....

    1. Me, too! Husband has a pair of Winnie the Pooh Santa sox that he wears around the holidays and we gave Son a pair last year that said, "It's a beautiful day, don't f#*k it up." He loves them!

  2. Well, I was a child during the 70s, so pretty much every outfit. Lol!

  3. I once left to get my daughter at a friend's house while wearing an oversized sweatshirt, my thermal longjohn pants, and my bootie slippers. No bra....and guess who got a flat tire on the way? Called my son for help, then had to explain WHY I wasn't able to change it; not appropriate for laying in a slushy road, lol! Oh, I'd also left my cell phone at home, so probably shocked the elderly couple silly when I knocked on their door at 8pm and asked to borrow their phone....

    2. Just realized I said 'bootie slippers'...I was probably in my winter boots, due to the slush! But yes, I've also been known to lounge around the house in the same outfit and wearing those 'bootie slippers'.

    2. I also love Madison! Used to attend an annual book fair there, until the place closed. Now the owner has a mew store in Oldham County, Ky.

  5. I didn't get caught, but I played an orchestra concert wearing one black pump and one navy pump. I only noticed when I took my shoes off at home afterward.

  6. I've probably made all kinds of fashion faux pas, but I'm going to tell on a friend instead. On his last day of work before retirement, he forgot to put his shoes on and went to work in his slippers instead. Good thing they were brown and not pink bunny slippers! He had kind of an important job, but at least they had a sense of humor about it. He showed us a picture that was taken on his last day with his boss, his comfy slippers on full display. I guess our friend was getting a jump on his retirement!

  7. One day when it was time to take my kids to school, I think I was still half asleep when I got dressed that I fogot to put on a bra and I so didn't notice until I was getting out of my car at the grocery store after dropping the kids off at school. It was so embarrassing and uncomfortable that I couldn't finish getting my groceries fast enough! Thank you so much for this great chance!

    1. I have that same bra-less anxiety every time I leave the gym--I rinse off after water aerobics and then come home to shower, so why bother with a bra, right? In the winter, not a big deal, but summer clothes don't hide it all that well. Thanks, Alma!

  8. I think the answer to that is too numerous to mention. LOL. Especially because I grew up in the seventies. I had a smiley face dress my mom made and it billowed out. I was in fifth grade I think and a boy asked if I was pregnant. I never wore that dress again. LOL
