#GoalSetting and Word Setting

Is setting goals the secret to success?
It’s 2018! Hard to believe another year has passed. A lot of us make New Year’s Resolutions. There’s the usual suspects – lose weight, eat healthier, exercise more. I know, because I’ve made those same resolutions numerous times (Don’t ask how successful I’ve been).

But for a writer, it’s important to do more than make resolutions. We need to set goals. I've got to get to work on mine.

My Production Goals:
I’ve been talking forever about the three-book series I’m publishing myself. Now’s the time to make some firm decisions about when I’m actually going to release the books. I know I want to release them in the early part of 2018, but so far that’s all I know. I can’t let this drag on forever. What I need to do is set a date and work toward it.

I have to also look forward to the rest of the year. What other projects do I want to work on? Where do I want my career to go? I need to make decisions, set dates and work towards them.

My Marketing Goals:
There are a lot of decisions to make here. I have to figure out what I’m going to do to launch my indy series. Do I want to expand my newsletter? I’m at the point where I’ll need to actually start paying Mail Chimp if I add many more subscribers. There’s a lot of talk now about ads, both Facebook and Amazon. I need to learn how to use these ads.

And since the other World Wranglers are talking about the words they've chosen as their inspiration word of the year, I thought I'd pick one, too. I'm going with Determination. I'm determined to self-publish. I'm determined to move forward in my career. I'm determined to enjoy my writing more than ever.

2018 promises to be an exciting year. I have a lot to learn and a lot of decisions to make. Not to mention losing weight, eating healthier, and exercising more!

Do you have any goals or resolutions for 2018?

    1. Isn't it always? I haven't finalized my writing goals for the year, but I have made one personal resolution: to floss my teeth every day. So far I haven't broken it!

  2. So many goals, so little resolution. So yes, I will make a resolution: to have resolution that I can and will work on those stories that I've been toying with. That I will be serious about my writing, instead of treating it like something to do when I've run out of other stuff.
Thanks, Jana, for giving me a necessary poke in the ribs.

    1. Yeah, I'm working on it. I really want a plan instead of winging it with marketing like I usually do.
