Spring Has Sprung and I'm Too Tired to Notice...

Okay, I have noticed a little. Spring seems to have arrived here and I am delighted to see all the green around me. It makes me unnaturally happy to know that our new owner will enjoy our gardens and the green trees and bushes around our yard. Husband and I have had 35 years of pleasure from the setting of our little home, so it's nice to see everything leafing out and blooming again. That's our lilac bush up there--trust me, they smell as beautiful as they look.

We're in the last two weeks of living in this house and I wish I could come up with some appropriate adjective to describe the feelings I have. Excited, worried, scared, exhilarated, sad--they all fit, but I think mostly I'm tired, which doesn't seem very thrilling, but right now, that's it. We've packed and stewed and cleaned and stewed and moved things and stewed...and yeah, we're still stewing, hoping all will go well with the closing that happens in a couple of weeks. This is, without a doubt, one of the most stressful times of my life--taking apart our home while at the same time trying to maintain my career as a freelance editor and a writer. I will be very glad when we're settled in Son's basement for a brief time while we try to find a new home.

Writing has been hard during this time, mostly because it's been difficult to find time to do it. I'm trying to get back into my early-morning writing routine. It's harder than it might seem, simply because we drop into bed each night exhausted and dragging out at five thirty doesn't always happen. I've done it some and I'm over 10K on the new Four Irish Brothers Winery book, but man, it's been a struggle. I'm having trouble falling asleep at night, so when I finally do get some shut-eye, I just want to hang on to it.

The lake is a beacon--shining out there like a peaceful shelter from the storm. We're headed up for Mother's Day weekend and even though I have to put in some writing time and maybe even a little bit of editing work, I'm praying I'll sleep normally and wake up refreshed. Hold a good thought okay? Another beacon is the writing trip that Liz and I have planned for fall--details later!

On a good note, my publisher and I finally came up with a title for Book 2 in the Four Irish Brothers Winery series--Between Friends. I like it--it's simple, easy to remember and it describes Sean and Megan's story, and that's what we need. I'm anxious to see the cover, which should be coming along in the next few weeks. We have a firm release date of July 18, so we're moving right along. Book 3, which is Aidan Flaherty's story is forming up at 10K words in--I've done a lot of research about riverboats and actors on TV series and TV series and tea rooms and Broadway. Are you intrigued? I hope so! It all connects, I promise. Stay tuned!

This week, my friend Moe, from the lake, is coming down to help us pack up our kitchen and all our dishes and pots and pans. We'll be paper-plating it for about a week until the movers come to take all of our belongings to storage. Send good energy my way that all goes smoothly for the next 16 days, okay? Sure would appreciate any good vibes you can spare.

Enjoy your week! Next time I'm here, I'll be moved. Wow...

  2. you'll be unpacked and relaxing before you know it! Spring is s-l-o-w-l-y arriving here - mostly, it's been raining but the last 2 days have had a bit of sun...and I'm happy about that.

  3. Sending good thoughts your way, Nan. Moving is so stressful. Our family moved several times for my husband's career. But we've now been in the same house for almost 21 years, which is a record for us. Stuff is starting to pile up and I'm thinking about getting rid of things that don't "spark joy". That would be mostly my husband's stuff.

And spring? I have no idea where it is. It was minus 4 this morning when I got up! (That's Celsius so maybe 28 degrees Fahrenheit, approx.) There is definitely nothing blooming in my yard!

  4. Moving is one of those love/hate things. The result is wonderful, usually, but the road is long and hard. Know that those of us who love your books are eagerly awaiting the next one - no pressure. Maybe that will give you a little spark of energy. Also, remember, all change is stressful.
