UNPACKING

by Margie Senechal

This week I returned to Suitcases for the first time in months (and months). I thought I'd lost my way, so I'd dipped into the France story for a few months and a mythical fantasy short story collection I'm tinkering around with.

I've decided my brain is a little scattershot. (That noise you hear is my family screaming, "A little?" very objectionally.) But I do like a little variety when it comes to my writing, so sometimes, I have to leave something for a while and go to another playground.

Anyway, I opened my file and scrolled down to the last bit I'd written. I've read the front bits so many times they're ingrained in my mind, but the last bits...

I'd forgotten. I'd forgotten where I was and that I was on the right track. I'd forgotten how emotional they were until I felt tears trailing down my face. I made myself cry! Writer victory!!!

And now, I'm recommitting myself to finishing this book. (That scream you just heard was my BFF Chris woo-hooing from across the state.)

I'm getting back into my early morning groove which had hit a huge boulder called work. Instead of having my laptop next to my work computer set up--two monitors and a bunch of wires that I keep getting caught in my chair--I brought my chrome baby out to the kitchen table. I'm in front of an open patio door and looking out to my bare yard. It's a bit glorious. Not too glorious because that would be distracting.

And now, I'm going to close so I have 25 minutes to delve into a suitcase or two. Have a great weekend doing what makes your heart happy. Stay safe and hydrated!

    1. I am definitely a morning writer, that's for sure. If I don't get up that early, I procrastinate and don't get any writing done.

  3. Yay for you! I'm morning, too. I haven't quite figured out the reason for the hours from 4-9 PM, because I totally waste them!

  5. I, like Nan, can't wait until I see Suitcases on bookshelves. I have to tell you that the more books I read, the more I realize what a unique voice you have in the literary world. Quit depriving the world of that voice Margie!
